I am not happy.  I've had all the problems others have stated with the different freeze screens, but now I've gotten the Red Ring of Death.

I already had it once in the fall of '07, the fixed free and returned.  The 'new' unit says it was manufactured Dec 2007.  Anyone know what chip this is, Falcoln?

And now MS wants $100 to fix it.

.....................but, it will break again.....sadly.

Your best bet is to buy a console post Elite release, whether used or not. Of course this means you have to pony up more bucks, but in the long term it's your best bet.

Now, for your immediate gaming enjoyment, just 'towel' the box and keep playing.

EDIT: You could also fix it yourself for far less than $100. There's many tutorials availible online as well as the hardware to do so. If Microsoft is charging you mony to fix it, it more than likely means your warranty isn't viable anyways, so there's no voiding it. Of course having the aptitude to fix it is another thing, but it's not a terribly had fix.

This of course revolves around the assumption that it's your mother board and there in, and not your disk drive.
