anyone have a preference on Hawke's Gender? just out of curiosity mostly, seeing as how i had this same question in ME 2 but never posted a topic there. my first playthrough was with a fem Hawke Warrior with a no BS attitude. Though her methods were usually a little abrasive (and bloody) she usually ended up doing the right thing in the end. anyone else's preferences and ideas would be appreciated here, as i may even end up getting an idea for a future playthrough, as far as gender/attitude combinations.

No real preference, but I did enjoy having FemHawke running around in her underwear for a short time. Very shapely.

I was all set to love female Hawke but her voice and running animation turned me off :/ It's the complete opposite of my situation with ME, where I can't play a male character.

i've found the fem Hawke's voice fits better with a snarky attitude, which is what i'm playing now.. i'm sort of having the opposite problem, however.. while the run animation IS dreadful, i'm actually kind of enjoying the VA for fem Hawke, while the male voice... i don't know.. something about it doesn't click for me. i like it, but something about it just seems... half-cocked? (no pun intended)

Actually, I think that Lady Hawke does sound better when she's being a smart ass, but, unlike ME, I prefer the Sir Hawke voice for most other situations, and he even does a good job as a smart ass as well.

I've only been able to play as Lady Hawke so far. And as a mainly diplomatic/aggressive sort. Then again, I'm having trouble playing anyone but my main LH, which is troublesome.

I prefer a Femme Fatale mainly from a male pig standpoint that I would rather watch a chick run around from behind than a dude. Not to mention the lesbian romances, lol!

I played the preset female hawke... went really well with the dialogue and story. The male hawke seems pretty... awkward. Changing the male hawke to a custom one just made it even worse since the voice doesn't suit the face I find.

that's probably the problem i'm having.. i've made a few looks for Male Hawkes i like, but the voice just doesn't seem right. i hadn't thought of that, really. maybe i'll just try it once with the default look and see if i can actually get past the first act.

lol, yea I always gotta go for that on my first run.  I never really wanna romance a dude even if I am a female character.  It just feels off.

I made a face for custom male that resembles spartacus and I must say that the face fits the voice quite nicely. In fact, the voice is oddly familiar does anyone know of his past work? Also, I like both female and male. I have a female and male rogue, female mage and male war. I'm trying to find the perfect character for my first major playthrough.

I'm thinking over protective male rogue who is heartless aside for his sister and isabella. That or a female warrior that falls for fenris or a female mage that falls for anders. I already did the merril romance

FemHawke - entirely because of the voice acting. The actress doing Hawke isn't quite Jennifer Hale FemShep caliber, but she's quite good.

It's not that I actively dislike the male voice actors in neither DA2 nor ME by the way, I think they both do a decent job, I'm just always heavily partial to pleasant female voices - something that's also extremely apparent in my music collection.

I love my Lady Hawke because of how I play her. She's a smart a--, excuse me, "clever" as they call it officially, and the voiceacting for it is wonderful. Honestly, I don't care about the animation of her running. I find it interesting though, that as I switched from my mercenary outfit to mage robes, her figure seemed far more... feminine. Just an observation, do what you will with it.

completely agree, especially with the smart ass dialogue.

The character design on the default Fem Hawke face and hair is very well done also, not to mention the flippant animated gestures she exhibits when making sarcastic comments.

After playing through the game as male hawke I have a hard time starting a female playthrough. Male Hawke's VA is just so great.

Witty Lady Hawke is the best, her VA is just perfect for it.
Male Hawke...ah I finished the game with him but I don't like the VA at all. (Don't get me wrong, I don't hate him)

I have to echo this. I changed male  Hawke's face 5 times until I find something that doesn't feel awkward with the voice.

I found that the male Hawke voice goes well with a Black champion, something that just didn't feel quite right in ME.

I know this topic is probably old but to add my two cents, I actually loved the voice acting in Dragon Age 2. But i think it depends on how you customize your Hawke. The male Hawke voice acting worked well for me the way I designed my character (the same one who's my profile avatar/image). And I agree the female Hawke's voice actress really shines when you take the "smart ass", comedic route. As for ME (or ME2 since I only own a PS3), the male voice only worked well with the customized Shepard. However, I did make my Shepard a light skinned (maybe interracially mixed) black guy and I have to say that it did fit nicely.

Sorry. Not "customized" but "standard" Shepard. Sorry. I'm tired.

I've never been able to get into the ME series, so no opinion there. Greater than 90% of my Wardens were female. Alistair was my LI of choice, and he has distinct preferences. Also, it was slightly easier for me to create a good-looking female in the Character Creator, so that sealed it. In DA2, I've run both male and female Hawkes and I like them equally. Or close to it. Male Hawke might win out by a nose for the same reason Bathead enjoyed his female Hawke. More hot guys to look at. Also, I found F!Hawke's running animation disturbing. A little cornstarch would clear that right up.

Speaking as someone who dislikes the male running animations in DA, I'm used to the f!Hawke running animation. I think it bothered me for about ten minutes and I realized I was just glad that she wasn't doing that weird Shepard staring at the ground thing.

That being said, I love sarcastic f!Hawke so much and I feel like it works really well with the other two tones. Meaning, I'm almost always sarcastic but when I am diplomatic or aggressive, it's recognizably the same character. I feel like m!Hawke might be more "believably aggressive" but it isn't consistent with sarcastic Hawke at all.

I have other reasons, most of them having to do with prefering to play women in video games in general and loving the whole Hawke/sibling dynamic and the Hawke/Isabela/Aveline dynamic more as a woman. But those are really boring, so.

Male hawke and male Shepard.

The VO distances me enough from the character that I only like playing as males. The female voices tend to irritate me.
