Because the game encompasses much much more than simply combat, and tbh the combat has almost unanimously agreed to be better than origins. Forums skew that a little but then again what dont they skew...its more reactive etc etc....

I dont think so, and many other people are of my opinion. And im pretty shure everybody that really liked DAO-Combat wont like DA2 combat as much. Yet i would agree that people that didnt like DAO combat and people that like more action oriented gameplay like in Mass Effect will probably like DA2 combat more (not to mention console gamers, but i guess thats due to the fact that the port of DAO wasnt that "great")

And i have to admit i also dont like all those special effects, if everything is awesome it gets normal and nothing is exceptional anymore. Which makes it "not so"-awesome. Its just like with movies, if in a movie there is one gigantic explosion it is great to watch and something special, if the movie soley consists of gigantic explosions they get boring.

But you havent experienced it for youself...... your just basing it off what you see and not in the context  of a complete game, which you only apparently enjoy combat in and based it off  a 3 month old build......if you incessently focus on everone exploding sure it get tedious, but if you just enjoy the totality of the game FWIW it becomes easier...

RPG by their long winded nature cant be encompassed by reviews or demos....but i digress

Well you have to differ i guess, i enjoy a lot of genres for what they are, and for what i expect of them. Games i enjoyed for what they were: KOTOR, DAO, ME, heck i even really like Fable TLC (i dont know why but i think microsoft really did a great job with the soundtrack and the mood ingame) but i also play lots of FPS (Counterstrike, Battlefield 2 etc.) , RTS (Starcraft etc.). So i guess i like quite a lot of games, yet that doesnt mean i want every game try to combine as many genres as possible, btw. games i absolutley hate are any cinemantic games like Heavy Rain, Assasins Creed etc. (not to mention when i play games i am looking for fair challenge)

So yes i am harsh when it comes to DA2 because for me DA2 indicates for me that it tries to be a sequel for DAO which for me it is not. Not to mention as i said i dont like the cinematic approach in games, expecially not when it comes to RPGs.

A sequal would have been Dragon Age: Origins 2........All these changes we presently see were documented for month in advances by designers etc for the ever weary eyes like yours....

If you like challenging combat I fail completely to see how you though DAO was challenging but again tomato tomato.....its really hard for me to take all of you concerns seriously without you giving the game even a rental.

I've played many many demos and read many reviews but if I havent played the actual full game I really dont feel compelled to comment on it as I dont have the same end product experience as everyone else

At best, DA2 is worth about $30.

DAO was pretty hard, i actually dont use health-potions which makes the game rather interresting on hard/nightmare ;) (okay i have to admit i used some to defeat flemeth ;) but this fight was almost impossible i guess i did it too soon )

Well from what ive heard bioware always tried to "it wont be that different". And taking a franchsie-name and put a 2 on it send makes it a successor. Not to mention that "even if you dont get top down view, pc camera will be free-roam -> yeah shure ...)

And still i call bs on your statement about the demo. Yes the build is 2 Months old, but so is your game. As i said before the final game is sent to the company actually producing the DVDs pretty soon since it takes quite some time to produce them and send them to retailers arround the world, so the game was finished months before it was released.

But you still haven't played it. The game went "gold" Feb 23 IIRC thats hardly 2 months..............modern industry doesnt take nearly 2 months to produce some 2 mil+ cd's...its closer to a week

I really liked DAO combat and DA2 combat, the kind of tactics one uses are very different especially becuase in DA2 your never really sure how long the fight will go on (wave combat) so you have to measure the risk of burning off too much energy vs the rest of taking to much damage early. But it can be a vastly more satisfying expierence, when it comes together. The demo doesn't give you much of a feel for the combat, that all takes place with baby level characters that you have leveled up on your own, as the levels increase and you tools increase it certainly gets more exciting.

Please feel free to explain what exactly is better about either DAO or DA2's story? Because they are both just as stupidly lame as any other RPG.

Of course! Except the script which is better in Dragon Age. And the setting. And characters who actually have some semblance of life to them. Not to mention, the voice-acting! Or the presence of actual story-telling elements.

Dark Brotherhood does not a video game make. Aside from that one questline, all of Oblivion's quests are pretty sub-par, especially the Fighter's Guild and the Mage's Guild questlines.

I have
The only point I'm going to make is that DA:O was, by Bioware's own admission, a ton more content than the average game.

I'm sorry but if you compare DA2 to most other games (Deadspace, Castlevania, umm... Dante's Inferno, Force Unleashed 2, Batman, etc) it is much longer in content.

In the 90s you paid $40-50 for Final Fantasy games and the like and a GOOD one ran 40 hours of game time... tops. Unless you level grinded to level 99 or something. DA2 is about 40 hours give or take and much better than those old games.

You got a lot of EXTRA value in DA:O. DA2 is as long or longer than both Awakening and Mass Effect 2.

Quit whining.

I finished the game in like 33 hours. On hard, and did every single side quest I came across, even took the time to find additional ingredients for my potions and runes, and I even took the time to develop my relationships with all my companions except Fenris.

I pre-ordered the game because I gave Bioware the benefit of the doubt, despite the rumors and claims about DA2 new direction. Now that benefit of the doubt is gone, I doubt future DLC for DA2 will be any good, and I doubt DA3 will be worth buying either.

This game just isn't worth 60 bucks and by the time the DLC is all said and done people will be spending 100+ dollars on an incomplete game that the DLC should have been in already. It's obvious Bioware took countless shortcuts yet people still praise this game.

I have no plans to purchase any DLC for this game, or DA3 for that matter.

I agree, but I will still pay for DLC and buy DA3. I felt I played half a game and they cheap me out but kinda still worth the price. Good game not great.

PC Games shouldn't cost $60. That's the end of the line for me.

Console games cost $60 because Sony and Microsoft charge licensing fees, which are then passed on to the consumer. PC games have no licensing fee, therefore, it is not passed on to the consumer.

I borrowed my friend's copy of the game, played it through, saw that the ending was a setup for more dlc, and with Day 1 DLC already adding to the price tag, Dragon Age II is all about charging more money for less game.

I may eventually buy the game, when it is on sale on Steam for a reasonable price rather than the attempted highway robbery it currently is, and I really hope they don't try this same load of garbage for Mass Effect 3. I understand the "free" Day 1 DLC for new copies of the game that'll have to be purchased for rented, borrowed, or buying used copies of the game, okay fine, go with that, but don't artificially inflate the price by holding back content that should be on the disc (or worse, is on the disk, paid to unlock) for premium DLC, and don't charge us for fees that you're not even paying to put this out on PC. $50 for Mass Effect 2 with the free Cerberus network DLC was successful, right?

I "like" DA:2. Not "love" it but "like." I would never recommend someone paying full price for this game. I personally wish I waited for the price to drop. Which, considering how this turned out, I will definitely wait for the price to drop on the next installment. I only pay full price for games I think I will love.

The re-used environments, and lack of life within them was my main problem. I think 'how you look' at the game is a big factor in enjoyment. I didnt see it as a sequel, just more DA content. I am hoping for Origins2, thyough I wont hold my breath. As I got over 40hours of play from my 1st playthru, cant really complain about cost. Did expect more though.

my playthrough took 36 hours and i enjoyed every moment so dont tell me its a rip off its a great buy as some games charge up to 50 pounds just for 10 hours of content with crap story lines DA2 is not in that category honestly whats with all the hate for DA2 im seeing.

guess its a case of a small number of loud haters vs most people who love the game and know its good and dont have to convince everyone

You have to differentiate here. Most games with short SP try to expand gameplay by MP. So if we talk about rather subjective things like enjoyment of gametime and actual gametime we also need to talk about MP gameplay-time.

And your last statement ist just altering reality to something you like. Lets get straight to the facts. Overall reviews have gotten worse. There are lots of not satisfied customers. Sales dont seem to be that great either. Not to mention if your logic applied it would apply to any game and it wouldt make sense that any game gets good user-scores.
