Where can I find the books? Only found the one in the Viscount's Keep

Chantry, Cave in Wounded Coast (up the path to the right on entry), cave on Sundermount (to the left of the path up the mountain & the new cave on the left), Cave in Bone Pit & a cave in Darktown, the Darktown cave is supposed to show up when all 5 have been destroyed but I´ve never goten it, if you dont destroy all the books the quest will not update or finish.

I didn't want to destroy them because you'd get rivalry with Merrill and read the first book and apparently that makes it unable for me to even complete the mission. So yay.

I think if you read the book in the Viscount room you can still destroy it afterwards and you get attribute points, it´s basicly a tome of the mortal vessel. But dont quote me on it, might be best to save that one for last and save right before to make sure if you really want the boost.

I read the book in Vicount's keep. You can't destroy it after. Then I destroyed all other books. I don't get a cave opened in Darktown. Is it at night or during the day?

You have to destroy all the books to complete the quest (except for the one in the Darktown cave.)

If you don't do that, you won't get the Darktown lair quest update, and it will be impossible to complete the quest.

You can't complete the quest if you keep them. They have to be destroyed.

Honestly, that should be patched. I took the books.

I agree, because if I remember right, you get the quest after you do something with the first book (If you kill Idunna) which is honestly poor planning. I destroyed all the books after the first one, which I read. One book away from being able to continue the quest. /wrist
I also have to ask myself how my character would know where the last book would be if I'm just destroying them.

You get the quest beginning of act II if you spare the apostate mage from the brothel she apparently repented and begs to destroy the evil tomes. You can also stumble on the quest if you find the books.

If you read the book it gives you the bonus to attributes, if you take the books you can sell them. If you do the "right" thing and destroy them you face the demon boss.

As far as I know, you'll only get rivalry with Merrill if she's in your party. If she's not, you should be fine if you're trying for friendship or romance. After I reloaded w/o Merrill things went fine and later a romance ensued. I could be wrong though
