IMHO it's very good. It's like playing a movie - very cinematic, with a lot of character moments and dialogue. It's very story-driven, and you directly affect the outcome of the story.

Honestly, given the chance to do so again I might not have bought it. The story is okay once through, after that its as boring as anything else you've seen before. The game play - you know, that part of the game that doesn't involve watching overly long cinema scenes - isn't bad but it required a hotfix out of the box, as well as several other mods to include features the game should have been shipped with.
I dunno... play it before you buy it, if you can.

I had no preconceptions about this game since I had never played Never WInter Nights or Baldurs gate. I have played KOTOR and Mass Effect. I am no critic, I tend to judge the game on it's merits rather than comparing it to games that it is not.
I have played through all six of the Origin stories - the prequels to the main story. Some are better than others, but they are all effective at making you care about your character. In two of the origin stories, I felt particularly betrayed - by characters in the story, NOT Bioware.
You will ready many complaints on different forums on this site. I feel sorry for so many of the complainants because they are apparently not letting themselves enjoy a spectacular game.
If you think story and extensive dialog, building relationships with other non-player characters, and a great story, this is probably the game for you. If you can adapt your thinking to the tactical fantasy combat structure, you should do well.
If you like simple, open-world dungeon crawls more like Sacred 2 (which I understand is a lot like Diable) you may not like this game.
If you have a console, you can always rent to see what it is like

I'm not a huge JRPG fan so I'm not poised to answer these querys. I like Final Fantasy XII quite a bit but the Japanesiness still got on my nerves (hero young, clean cut androgynous; moogles, anything at all cutsey, chipocos or whatever they're called, did I mention I hate japanese art style --- and moogles?!?)

I agree. If you like story/characters, this game is the bomb.....[/quote]
Ditto - it's hard to describe - very deep, rich with suprises around every corner. And the voice acting is absolutely top notch.
I love the banter between different members of your party. Wynne complaining about Allistair's dirty sock in her pack?!? I sometimes just sit and listen even in the middle of rooms full of enemies.
If you dig stories (and that's really the reason I play any game - RPG or no), best of 2009 and perhaps 2010.

Story line is good.
Game mechanics are stellar.
Graphically the game is OK; expected more.
Cut scenes and voice acting are simply awful.

How else can I say it... There is nothing current on the market (released this year) that exceeds this game from a story/character development perspective. What could you possibly be holding out for? Is it better than Xenogears... Pfff. how is that relevant? That game is 10 years old... If you love Xenogears so much, go play it.

I'll give you a less rude reply, since I'm not a fan of elitism
Take my opinion how you will, I generally appreciate and enjoy CRPGS and JRPGS. Its hard to say if its better or worst than Xenogears. Imo I would say Xenogears is better, but that is with blinders on of a 15 year old who was playing a game belonging to a genre that typically caters to that age group. So its hard to say how it holds up now that I'm in my 20s.
The experience lingers with me in a way that I don't think DA will.... Its rather hard to compare the two since they have rather distinct narrative styles.
If you're a fantasy hound, you'll probably love it..as seemingly a lot of forumers do. I'm not a fantasy hound per se...
Its an enjoyable game and the setting has a lot of potential. The combat is very enjoyable imo also. One of the better rpgs in that respect I think...

Cut scenes are bad...voice acting...not sure why you think its awful.
Its not Uncharted 2, but its pretty consistent good quality.

Probably the best I've seen in many many years. This is from someone who has played games since 1991, and continue to play games of both new and old origins.
I'm not sure why people keep comparing DA:O to uncharted. Uncharted 2 is Indiana Jones with Racist leanings. No offense to people who enjoy that kinda drivel, but it's one of the most boring games I've ever played, completely predictable, with no decent storytelling at all. Nevermind the gameplay, which is pretty much the most annoying system ever created.
People complain about how biowares games are exactly the same gameplay wise. Yes, they are similar. But it's a formula that works and people enjoy. If they changed it, and it didn't work, they would have wasted almost six years of development for nothing. I personally hate it when people complain about a "lack of new things" because these same twits would complain if a new thing was added and they didn't like it.
And yes, I was playing games at four. Doom and KidCad to be precise.

I was referring to the voice over quality only.
