idea for a showing of good faith (apology?) from bioware.

Honestly, I feel an apology would be more in order if the game was broken Day 1 or something truly catastrophic like that. By this standard, every game company ever would have to give free dlc since there is always a section of fans who do not like their latest output.

Going on this line of thought, shouldn't Obsidian give us their next game published by Bethesda for free?
Hey, good idea! I want free stuff from every game ever made that had aspects that I didn't enjoy. NOW.

Did I deserve free stuff from the director for my disapointment? No, that's just not how business works. It's not fair to the creators to demand an "apology" in the form of free stuff due to stuff that comes down to subjective opinion.

I'm 18 hours in and still on Act 1. It's a good game with some faults (reused areas, silly animations). I expect to get my £25 ($40) worth.nightlordv wrote...
$60 dollars for only 20 or so hours of gameplay and people got their money worth? Interesting indeed

Somebody obviously either skipped a lot of conversations, side quests or played on an easy difficulty.
Hell, on nightmare sometimes one fight (not a boss fight even) takes me an hour.

You can't fully play the game and finish it within that time frame. Oh, and 20hrs is 12hrs longer than 90% of games.
/go figure

Obsidian would be out of business if this was standard policy. Worst. QC. Ever.
On topic, no, I don't feel like Bioware "owes" me anything, apology or otherwise, even though DAII didn't live up to my hopes. The only thing I'd like to see out of them is a patch that addresses the bugs. That 60 dollars you spent entitles you to a working game only, not a great one.

I spent 25 hours just getting ready for the expedition in Act 1 on my first playthrough. Don't even ask for my act 2 time. Pretty good value if you ask me.
I also only spent $50 for my copy. (PC though)

I have the steam version, and my first play through logged in the hours at roughly 22 and this was doing everything i could find to do in the game involving quests, including ALL side quests and the main story.B3taMaxxx wrote...

Somebody didn't make it past act 1.
Or just ignored everything else.
I guess that makes Oblivion's length 10 hours then?

Speak for yourself. I've got 20 hours of gameplay in already and I'm not done with my first playthrough. So yeah, it seems like a pretty good value to me.

I feel the game was decent but the way they have handled backlash from fans on forums and in general was insulting. While by all means they don't have an obligation too(i know alot of people are happy). Sometimes its good business to rekindle your bases trust by releasing something for free (like a solid piece of DLC). As it stands now I cannot see a reason to purchase 1st day any Bioware DLC or game again. This coming from a Bioware fan from Baulders gate to now.
(also playing on normal not skipping dialogue it took me 20 hrs. That's every sidequest included.I am going through on hard and it seems to be only marginally increasing playtime)

I played through the game twice and the total hours are at 33 with doing everything I could find in both play throughs. I beat the game in both play throughs so no it was not just "act 1" don't assume please. Maybe It is less because I played the the game on normal and not on hard or nightmare that would have taken more time to play, but I doubt that.NvVanity wrote...

If my playthrough were such short, I might have been a little upset, but the game was far longer, double your 20 hours for me. That said, a game like Alpha Protocol lasted, for me, about 20 hours. Or Jade Empire, just to name a previous BioWare title. And even then I'm quite sure I got what I paid for, enjoyed the ride, and replayed a few times.
Yes, I know, judgeing a game on something subjective as enjoyment is shocking. I'm the last to hide the fact that I hoped for more. But, contrary to some Bethesda/Obsidian titles the game is not broken on release - it just might be not your game.

I got lots of free stuff just by participating on this forum before the game was released. Hindsight, staff of parlathan, tomes galore... and I didn't even have to like Bioware to get it! I do of course, but expecting something for free everytime a game or a company dissappoints you is silly. Get used to disappointment... and just for the record. I enjoyed the game and can't wait to play it again.
