@Topic: I found the spiders in Dark Messiah Might & Magic far more disturbing. I mean at least a spider the size of a bus you can always see coming. I'm more disgusted by the small ones running on my wall and then hiding themselfes when I try to catch them. Then I know it's somewhere, but cannot reach it. I hate that!

That first one, in the Deep Roads nearly killed me. I thought it was another one, spawning behind me, but no. It was big. And in front. My new strategy, now that I know where they all spawn (mostly), is to have Fenris or Aveline or SOMEBODY run forward and spawn them while my PC hides in the next room. I jump every time they spawn, with that grotesque hiss and the drop from the ceiling/sky/whatever. When I talked to the guy at the Bone Pit and he said it needed clearing out, I thought "no big deal". He then said spiders. I'm still putting that quest off.

Anyway as for DA2, the thing that disturbs me the most about the Monstrous Spiders is definitely their death animation and the way they curl up and just lay there... Really freaks me out, thankgod Bioware didn't include any after death twitches. I would literally scream like a little girl if my character was passing by the body and all of a sudden a leg started moving....

Yup. Only time I got chills from dungeon crawling in a video game was from Dark Messiah's spiders.

Well, with the new rigid class system who would get the shoe specialization? Rogues or warriors?Panzer_89 wrote...

Indeed, I find most fantasy spiders, BioWare's included, too big to be frightening. What fear of spiders I have is dependent on them hitting a certain sweet spot in size. Giant Shelob-style spiders just don't do it.B3taMaxxx wrote...

It's dragons in that quest.

I guess over time, after all the sweat and fear spiders just don't scare me as much as they used to anymore.
I was able to cut through those monstrous spiders without a flinch in DA2.
However If I encountered a large spider like the one deathstride posted IRL, I would run like hell and never look back.

I close my eyes and hope my team can take it out without me. I have a large HDTV, so the spiders are very large and very HD. I don't even like walking up to them to pick up the loot after they're dead.
I closed my eyes whenever I had to fight them. When I saw the monstrous spider for the first time I turn the game on casual, muted my TV so I couldn't hear those sounds it made and just mashed the attack button until I killed it.
I also have a decent HDTV, and the spiders look horrifying and realistic on it.

For whatever reason, Bioware seems to
render and animate them especially well, too. I've said "gross" out
loud more than once.

Personally I feel 'Big Spiders' are a
fantasy game cliche that needs to die. Its like some unspoken rule that
every game must have them.
I made a topic a few days ago asking BioWare not to include giant spiders next game lol.
I also hate how it seems to take forever for the spider's corpses to disappear so you can loot them. Especially the monstrous spider in the Deep Roads... for some reason it's corpse never disappeared. I ending up not even looting it because I was so scared. In case it was obvious already, I'm a big arachnophobe lol.

Oooh oooh, A High Dragon sized Mama Spider boss for the DLC, it could even have smaller spiders hatching from an egg sack on its back! Bioware do eeeeeet!

Oh thats an awesome idea, the Mama spider could have an ability like the insect swarm spell from DA:O but instead it would tons of little spiders crawling over the character doing nature damage. BRILLIANT!

However one time the monstrous spider got slowed down either from a spell or position between walls) and it started to slowly walk towards me, those giant long legs purposefull moving in my direction one at a time.... that really creeped me out.
I bloody hate spiders!
