A lot of us are having an issue with all of the animations in the game lagging behind while the framerate is consistantly good. The issue dissapears if you hold down the right mouse button and drag it until the cursor fades. This is HIGHLY noticeable in DX11 and still fairly noticeable in DX9, especially on lower end machines. It seems to affect mutli-core machines. It might have to do with innacurrate rouding of 32bit math operations until the error margin accumilates enough heft to affect perfomance visually. In other words. The computer is off by a tiny fraction but it builds up quickly and starts to affect performance. A recent Bioware Steam release (Neverwinter Nights 2) exhibited the same syptoms and this ended up being the culprit. Can Bioware PLEASE acknowledge this as an issue? At the very least, can a moderator confirm that he has indeed READ this post? I would be very greatfull.

Specs:
AMD Phenom 2 x4
ATI 5770 HD
4gb DDR3 1600
Windows 7 x64
Steam version of Dragon Age 2

Btw, this isn't just Hawk that is affected. It's every character on screen including NPCs.

I can confirm that all posts are read. In fact I can confirm that I read every single post in this section at least once.

Issue has been filed and we'll be looking in to it. If anyone else has this issue please let me know if you have a steam version or not.

Yup, I have this issue and am using the steam version...although I don't think everyone with the issue is. Some of us are able to partially fix it by running the game in a window.
There's a big thread about it here:

Can you give an ETA on patch?

Awesome. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. Makes me feel a lot better to be such a big Bioware fan.

I cannot give an ETA on the patch until the E is more like an A (for actual). Unfortunately due to the power of the quote button and the big Bioware symbol under my name I cannot be wrong ever or a cataclysm may occur or some sort of Maker based wrath will ensue.

As soon as we have a firm date I'll shout it from the rooftops for all to hear!

I have this issue as well.  Does not matter if its DX11 or 9, or what resolution, settings, etc.

Specs:
Phenom II x4 955
Asus M4A77TD
2x2GB G Skill DDR3-1333
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB
Western Digital Black 640/750GB Sata II
Corsair AX750
Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1

All drivers are up to date.  Running Catalyst 11.4 preview
Sorry to throw a monkey wrench in things, but my game is not a digital copy, it is a retail copy.

Thank you for replying, it certainly makes me feel better knowing someone has seen our issue.

Can I ask why in God's name this wasn't even addressed in the thread I made seven days ago?
Or the one I made before that?

im thinking there wouldnt be as much an issue if the graphic quality of the dirt and buildings werent lumped in w/ character quality
i dont care if the dirt is pretty, i jus wana see the details on characters and my items
and not have to deal w/ (in my case) dx11 based issues

id be happy w/ a high-very high option for dx9

i know this is a "complianative suggestion" but hopefully seperating the quality adjustments
is doable and looked into as a viable graphics solution

Strange thing is...if you move the mousepointer down to the Skillbar. The stuttering is gone. Just like when you hold the right mouse button.

Is there any way to maybe change the mouse pointer as temporary fix?

Without the mousepointer on screen i can play smooth as silk on very high all maxed out. ~~

I ended up going into the directory and removing all of the mouse cursor files...leaving me with an "invisible" cursor. It didn't fix anything for me.

I do not have the steam client version... solid 60fps and above with right mouse button pressed... laggy, choppy, rubberbanding frames when turning or moving with the keyboard and no mouse button pressed.

Win 7 64bit
Alienware Aurora
i7 920 OC @ 3,6 ghz and turbo
6gb ram
radeon hd 5970 video

*edit: Just DL'ed the new patch. This does nothing to alleviate the symptoms.

This works, oddly. When I have the cursor over the action bar (and it turns into the hand icon to rearrange the hotkeys), the lag is gone.

sometimes you send a party member to attack and they run in place for a second before they move... very loony toons. In DX 11 they will sometimes run and then appear a foot in front of where they started and run again like it was a MMORG hosted from the moon.

animation is done by the cpu correct? Run a plot of cpu usage and alt tab out to check core utilization.

I get core 4 maxed, with the other cores around 10%... considering the multi threading of the nvidia driver is the game using more then 1 core? Do others get this?
