Lv 50 is max. As far as doing all the quests and such it would depend.

I attempted to play through every available piece of content, every fight, and bought as much +exp gear as I could reasonably afford from the Black Emporium (Suited for my characters, obviously), and I managed to reach level 24 directly before the fight with Meredith.
Concerning the effects of level ups, you'll still gain attribute and skill points, but beyond the allocation of those new skills, there is no clear reason or need to level much beyond 20. Of course, that also depends on your build, your party, and what direction you're choosing for their skill and attribute bonuses, i guess

I finished every quest that I found that wasnt bugged on my first playthrough and hit 25 when I downed Orsino. I'm tempted to use the potions that give you levels on my current playthrough just for kicks, even though I could have maxed almost 3 whole trees with the amount of points i had at the end. I mustve missed a few key quests, though, because i didnt get the exorcist or demon slayer achievements.

50 is the hard cap. Realistically, you'll end the game around 23-25 if you choose to do absolutely everything.

You'll end up around 23-25 with 27-30 Abilities and 78-82 Attribute points. Not sure about the attribute points... This includes all tombs.

Yep, got to 25 on my rogue by the time I got to the final battle. Did every quest I could, with the exception of the bugged "Who Needs Rescuing?" quest.

hmmm thanks guys. I got to 23 with one file, so I was just wondering if it was possible to go further.

If no manages to go beyond 30, how come the hardcap is all the way to 50 then? seems way off to me.

so they don't have to raise the level cap every time they release DLC.

I was level 25 on my rogue at the very end of the game. I believe I did every quest there was except I messed up the quest where you destroy the books (took the first one and therefore couldn't finish it) and the bugged "Who Needs Rescuing?" quest. I didn't necessarily do every quest in the way that rewarded the most XP either (I talked people down from fights fairly often).
A tip with the +1 level potion: save it as long as you can. It doesn't just force a level up, it gives you a full level's worth of XP (which was like 26k when I used it). The higher your level when you use it, the more XP you get from it. On my next playthrough, I'm tempted to make it and just keep it in my inventory to use later when I'm higher level from DLCs.
EDIT: I loaded my Post-Campaign save and I was actually 15% of the way INTO level 26. I think I leveled up right before the final fight.

On Hard Difficulty with all quest and codex I can find done, I was level 24. I didn't use any potions though.
I think the highest item in the game are only level 24 items. So 24 might be the expected maximum for the default game content.

It'd be sweet to have NG + but they would need a scaling bloated loot table like ME 1 or 0 loot like in ME 2.

There may be an Awakening-esque expansion that will allow you to make further use of the level cap

In which they'll promise 10 more levels worth of gameplay and then just bump the experience up on ever little kill like 5 fold.
