Never understood why people hate characters who ****** and moan. There are people like that in real life too and it just makes the game more realistic.

You ought to stop right there.

I liked Caver, was very much like me and my brother when we were younger and made it feel more real.

Which is the misconception I'm referring to - it's just unfortunate that the dialogue parts where you get past his shell are somewhat hard to get to, and those that are unavoidable happen to drown in Meredith going all "She-hulk smash bloodmagic, RAWR"

I am that alot of people that start this have had brothers.
Epically younger ones.
What annoys me is the lack of difference.

See his rivalry is natural for some looking at Garret Hawke, the male protagonist.
However why he has a rivalry with a sister doesn't make sense.
I have never seen a sister/brother relationship like that ever, wile it's almost common place for brother/brother.
It is said that you and Bethany are twins that is the only thing that I can see that starts the rivalry.
I haven't know any twins with more family so perhaps that's what it is like.

I like him despite all of his efforts to cause otherwise.
If you have a younger brother you know what it's like.

I hated Carver. I didn't take him with me to the Deep Roads (for Mama Hawke :P) so he rebelled and joined the templars. I was playing a sarcastic (yet still overall good) female Hawke and hardly anything I did earned me friend points. In the end, he defended his sister, but he's still an arse.

I totally look forward to my next playthrough with Bethany.

Anders: You don't like me Carver?

Carver: I don't like you.

Anders: That's unfortunate. Hating someone just because they're a mage is a shameful thing.

Carver: I don't hate you because you're a mage, I hate you because you won't shut up about it.

SO are the only choices for carver is to either die in the deeps or to be a templar?

Bring Carver and Anders along in the Deep Roads and he can be saved by becoming a Grey Warden. I hear Carver finds more satisfaction in the Wardens than the templars, though I haven't tried it yet myself.

Or to become a grey warden, if you bring anders along in the deep roads. Becoming a templar suits him best though, imho anyway.

Is that so? I always thought he would be happier with the Templars. He seems happier in his Act2 letter if he is a templar instead of a warden. As a warden he is still complaining ^^

"Whine non stop but he interacts pretty nice to others."

No, he doesn't. Majority ofm the joinables dislike him immensely and for good reason.

I'm surprised he isn't more of an ass than in the game. I feel bad for Carver actually. If you read the letter he got from "Peaches", I believe, you can understand a bit of how he's in the shadow of his brother. On one playthrough he is killed by me in the deep roads and I liked his ending there. Haven't tried the others but I'm going to have to.

He's a complete jerk. The only good thing that happens to him is becoming a Grey Warden. Yeah, he whines about being a Warden in his letter, but it's really a perfect fit for him. He finally gets to branch out from Hawke and join an order of great heroes.

You run into him in a sidequest later [act 3] as a Warden and he said as much. I was really proud of him.

If you play as a female Hawke, Peaches really loved him. Carver slept with her and than never talked to her or wrote her after the blight. He is ******, no matter how you look at his character Posted Image

Hmm I didn't know that. In the Male Hawke scenario Peaches is more interested in me and pesters Carver about not introducing us. Even claiming she filled out a little more for my liking :o.
I do like that as much as he is jerk, he has respect for Hawke. This is especially true if you hear dialogue between him and Aveline upon entering the Gallows.

So far I've only done the one playthrough where Carver gets floored by the ogre. I like it that way.

LOL. If you can't complain to your family and friends, who can you complain to? I mean he is like what barely out of his teens in the beginning? His brother and sister are mage's like his father and he isn't. He's forced to live a life like he's an apostate. Where is he supposed to fit in? Aveline tells the guard to turn him down. He doesn't want to be a laborer and it's not like people in Kirkwall would hire a ferelden anyways, so what are his choices? Follow his big brother or sister around is about all. It seems like there may have been a bit of history between the two prior to the events because Carver starts pretty high on the rivalry side; whereas, Bethany and Hawke appear to have developed a closeness and are friendly. Carver is young, selfish, and can't for the life of him figure out how to change his lot in life. This makes you hate him?

Sibling Rivalry can last for a lifetime. And elder sisters and younger brothers can have just as a heated rivalry as brothers. It can sometimes be even worse, because they are less likely to 'duke' it out (physically work out their differences) with each other.

Given the lifestyle the Hawke's have had to live; Carver is not abnormal in any form or manner. Irritating to some, yes. You do have plenty of opportunity to point out the uselessness of his behavior to him and he does seem to start to get it and then you go into the deep roads with or without him and what little progress he has made is near destroyed.

I completed it as a rouge and the main reason for that was coz i couldn't stand the idea of playing the whole game with Carver! Loved bethany tho got well into the RPG element when she got in trouble! No one hurts my little sister!! haha but really wanna do it as a mage ......its gonna suck to see that ogre laying the smack down on hawks lil sis :-(

Too bad you can't choose which one of the 2 lives or dies like in mass effect 1, that would solve everything

I love Carver. I could sympathize with him, too - I grew up in the shadow of two older, more talented/popular/prettier sisters, and a lot of the things he said made me remember the resentment, insecurity and jealousy I used to feel. It's clear that he loves you - and my Hawke loved him - and I couldn't help but always feel sympathetic towards him. Plus, he was funny and charming at times, especially with Isabela. I was really sad when I lost him to the Templars, because he was a person I ALWAYS had in my party.
