This is just another Groundhog Day. The complaints weren't fair or objective then and they aren't now.

If Harrowmont is put on the throne he is killed in the epilogue.
Not in mine he wasn't. He ruled badly and the dwarves went downhill during his rule. It's a long lasting ripple because it is, not because I feel it is. Redcliffe existing or not is dependent upon the actions of the Warden.Because you feel Redcliffe was significant doesn't make it so. And especially not a long-lasting ripple effect on the entire world of Thedas.
And your arguement for the Ashes being important is that it can be used to kill off or get rid of certain party members? Like giving Isabela to the Qunari? Like giving Fenris back to his master? Like having Sebastian running away to get the army of Starkhaven after you?
Don't have the Sebastian DLC. But if you give Isabela up she just escapes three days later. Do you hear that CHOO CHOO in the distance? No?
If you give Fenris back to his master that actually might have an effect on the world. I doubt it, but it could happen. Only one man, though. You were just complaining that saving a village isn't relevant, but saving one man from slavery is? Cognitive dissonance if ever I've seen it.
I corrected the Harrowmount thing in an earlier post.
How can you say it's a long lasting effect because it is when it clearly isn't. It's one villiage that nobody outside the immediate area as ever heard of. Not a soul in Orlais or the Free Marches cares, but you say it effects all of Thedas.
I was using Fenris back to his matter the same way you were saying kill Leliana and Wynne at the Ashes as important.
At the end of the day only two decisions so far in the Dragon Age universe effected Thedas in any significant way. Killing the Archdemon and the war at the end of DA2. Both you are completely railroaded into doing with no other options. And even then, the Orlesian wardens would have killed the Archdemon if our Warden failed. And the war between the Templars and Mages would have started with or without our involvment.

Every BioWare game suffers a backlash from people who feel betrayed and assume that BioWare deliberately assaulted their sensibilities. With every release, people are upset with the gameplay, the romances, the plot, the humor. Sacred Cow X has been replaced by Reflexively Hated Feature Y or Summarily Dismissed Mechanic Z. Every time out: "I'm not immersed anymore.",, "I don't connect with this new character.", "My personal views are self-evident, how could BioWare fail to take them into account?"
This is just another Groundhog Day. The complaints weren't fair or objective then and they aren't now.
I agree with this to an extent, but for me it wasn't a case of feeling let down in DA2 after DAO, it was a case of feeling let down in Act 3 after Act 2.

This. My expectations were low coming into DA2, but as I progressed further into the game, I felt I may have been too critical about the game, and then Act III came along...

Actually, despite appearances, Redcliffe actually is important and its survival (or destruction) would probably have a large, lasting effect on the region eventually. Its importance is stated outright in its codex entry; the castle is the "first and last defense for the sole land route into Ferelden" and it's one of the largest towns (and most prosperous, due to being a center of foreign trade) in the country.
