I agree too. very well put OP. This game was very weak compared to other Bioware releases. Hopefully they will take their time on the next one..

I was thinking of making a feeback post but this one mirrors so closely how I feel about DA2 that I decided not to bother. Bioware games top the list of my personal favorites, but this one lacked the polish and character of the other titles including DAO. It's not to say the game was bad, it just didn't leave the overwhelmingly positive impression that Origins/ME/KOTOR/JE did. DA2 was a decent RPG, and I think that's the reason there's so much fussing going on. The expectation was for DA2 to be a great one given Bioware's game history and it fell a little short. I'm willing to bet that if you asked the development team what this game lacked that their previous titles didn't, they'd know right away even if they wouldn't openly admit it.

Honestly, I do agree but the game itself is still fantastic but it does have its glaring flaws. Hope they take the best from DA2 and transplant what we loved in DAO into DA3. Also it says alot when ppl say a game devs game is weak compared to the rest while the game itself got a lot of praise. Just please listen to the the flaws ppl found and work on them. Heck making some free dlc thats engaging and fun would def help to cheer ppl up.

Very well put.  I went and bought this game as a present to myself for my birthday.   Worst birthday ever...

That's sad no one bought you a present?

It is now that you made me think about it.

So you have a DA2 code, I certainly doesn't mean you are a Bioware fan. The way you posted is quite telling.

This is actually a form of trolling people, wake up.

Im a Bioware fan and im greatly disappointed in this game. I will never pre-order or buy a Bioware game on Day 1 ever again.

Hmmmm...see, if you have loved most of what Bioware has put out and only disliked ONE GAME, the odds are in your favor that you'll enjoy their next game. Posted Image

ME2 was a big change but a good change.

DA2 was an even bigger change but a bad change by a lot.

Chances are, there next game will be pretty different as well. I wil definitely get the game, but not Pre-order or day 1. If i like the nxt game, i will go back to Pre-ordering, if i don't, then Bioware have lost it.

It also kills the immersion

Personally I blame it's "consolization". DA:O and DA:A were very much made for the PC, with a lot of in depth traditional RPG stuff like being able to customize all your characters how you want with the armours and weapons your want. While I like that the companion armours make it easier to tell who is who on the battle field I can't help but think it feels dumbed down. The same goes for the interactions. IT's very much made for the console crowd, the typical retarded ones that can't focus on something for more than 5 seconds and have an aversion to anything story related and doesn't require them to blow away enemies on a mindless rampage. Bioware games were great because they knew who their audience was and they knew that they could put in a lot of dialogue and depth because they knew that their customers would enjoy it. I think EA must have sank their fangs into Bioware to make this more widely accessible to the retard generation of console gamers and therefore make more money.

Having said that though, it could be a lot worse. I could be playing WoW afterall...

I really have to agree with the OP but what do you expect when your boss(EA), always has dollar signs in their eyes and cant see beyond that,I'm actually happy that my game freezes up when I get to the ancient rock god so I dont have to finnish this piece of crap they call a game. I will use it for trade in for dungeon seige 3 tommorrow

OP put it better than I ever could. DA2 just seems to lack the heart of previous games.

Well said, OP. Here, have an internet cookie.

I have to agree with most points in the OP. The things I did enjoy about the game mostly involved the main quest line and related topics. Overall I found the art direction to be solid as well, especially the Qunari redesign which I felt gave them a ton of character (the Arishok is probably one of the best characters in DA2, and Qunari culture is as interesting as ever). The Darkspawn redesign feels a bit unnecessary though and I think they were just as good if not better in their previous form (DAO). Kirkwall itself is a beautiful city, but it feels so barren due to a lack of interesting events and people populating it, which makes the city feel like it lacks character. I guess my point overall would be that the game is beautiful but lacks substance.

That said, it's all very underwhelming when you realize how repetitive the areas in the game are and how uninvolved and bland the side quests are. I feel like I wouldn't be missing much at all if I had simply skipped all of the optional content and done the main quest and companion stuff. Something that really left a bad taste in my mouth was all of the respawning enemies. At first it didn't bother me much but as time wore on I began to notice it more and the enemy encounters started feeling really boring. In general, it feels like they tried to streamline the game and simplify too much. Whether that is a product of the game being rushed or honest design changes doesn't really matter, because I feel they don't work well either way. It reminds me too much of dark fantasy Mass Effect, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I don't think this is the direction the Dragon Age franchise should be going.

While I do find some things to enjoy in the new battle animations for mages, and the banters are golden, ultimately, I come down on the same side as the OP.

I was excitedly jumping in for the first two acts, but the grind of the "mailman" questing and lack of development with the NPCs really was beginning to flag my enthusiasm.

Then, my battle speed started to slow down to a crawl and get really buggy. So, I've gone back largely to DAO and my mods.  DAO was the first RPG I ever played, and it was the personal engagement with the characters that pulled this casual gamer into spending her hard earned coin.

I'll probably get around to finishing this playthrough, eventually. But I won't be buying anymore BW games  on pre-order.  Already got to that point with EA in general, but the demo in Feb made me change my mind.

The rushed character development has changed it back.

Pwnsaur, i'm a few days late on my reply, but that was an excellent, well thought out and heartfelt post. You've summed up my exact feelings about this sequel, and laid out some of the same concerns that us more level headed fans subscribe to.
I will admidt, though, that the more that I've pulled away from my desires of what I imagined da 2 would and should be, the me that I've found myself engrossed in another bioware work of art. Its definitely not the best, but it its a finely made and engaging game. The problem that we all have, is that the potential was there for it to be so much more!
Again, well communicated

I couldn't agree more. This game has no heart. One of its many flaws. I'm just grateful that we have DAO and the ME series.

Not really. In mass effect 1, and 2 at least they had alot of things going on, and when you did quests like giving them items, atleast most of the npc's acknowledged you.

For me, it's a little from column A, a little from row B, but having stumbled on some really game-ruining bugs, I find myself being simply ... apathetic towards it right now. Maybe after they get patched, I'll actually get into it properly and form an opinion.

And apathy ... well, I'm sad to say Bioware, but apathy is death.

Wow, this is like the best negative comment that I've seen. Some of the replies detract from it (the amen corner) but this sort of reply actually makes me think. First and foremost let me say that I did enjoy the game but I definitely see your point. I know there were plenty of times I would find an item and I would see someone with the icon over their head and I would give them something. The first time I kinda scratched my head but afterwards just shrugged and moved on.

Its sad how much I agree with the OP and the whole thread in general. Sadly the game so far (17 hours in, just after deep roads) feels like FedEx Age II. Pickup and deliver quest with absolutely no story.

Many people complain about the lack of enviroments.. Well personally I dont mind it so much, but when you visit a sidequest area so often that you start to see the "strategically"placed blockades, it gets a little sad.

But whats been the absolute biggest letdown for me has been the fact that enemies can materialise out of thin air..... Best example for me has been the deep roads. You clear it out, looking for treasure... you walk through a hallway and you get attacked by a bunch of hurlocks ahead. Using some cross class combo's I killed them off very fast (I play Hard), but my characters wouldnt go out of their combat stance, so I turn the camera around. And about 2 seconds later (it couldnt have been graphical lag) a new group of hurlocks paired up with an emmisary materialise out of thin air right behind my mage... When I saw that, it just made me sad. I am not entirely against a wave system for enemies, atleast have the decency to spawn them around corners or otherwise out of sight! But not right BEHIND my group as I cleared out a hallway with absoltely no side passages!? That felt like a really big letdown.

While I support Bioware, Im 23 and I totally love Neverwinter Nights, the Baldurs Gate Saga, Mass Effect (and not officialy from Bioware; Icewind dale 1, 2 and Torment), I hope this is not the way Bioware is going in general. Although I am sort of regretting I pre-ordered DA2, and that is a bit of a sad achievement.

2 words!

Diablo 3!

I so upset over DA 2 that I don't event think I will finish it. I will keep waiting patiently for Diablo 3.

This was a huge let down for me after playing DAO1. I mean what the hell we're they thinking by taking away all the great advantages DAO1 had. DA2 is so boring. There is no strategy at all.The only great thing is the graphics. The story is mediocre at best, most of the gear is limited to the main character only. I could go on and on but most of the last posts already explain my frustration. If you are reading this forum and haven't bought DA2, Don't!! It's a huge waste of your time.

Agree completely - this is how I felt about ME2 also.

But I'm shallow. I will play this for the gay romances, because I'm gay. Bioware can put out any old crap and I'd buy it just for Merrill. I actually liked ME2 when I learned how to romance the female NPCs as FemShep.

Couldn't agree more.

They say Kirkwall as a large booming city, which is so full, they had to turn back Fereldan refugees.
You then travel around, to find a few NPC's wearing the same clothing and pointing at random things, bending down, etc. There is no sense of a bustling city.
