I know a lot of people don't like the look of Rock Armor. I think it looks hilarious, like a thick winter coat. However, it is really bad for screenshots. Other battle effects, especially Arcane Shield, are even worse, and they obscure the battlefield and prevents you from microing optimally.
I think there would be a simple way to turn off the visual effects of these sustained abilities, by somehow telling the game to treat in battle effects the same as outside of battle (when effects don't show).
Just throwing this idea out here. It's not a big deal - I just imagine my Hawke to be on an Arctic expedition wearing a thick grey coat and there are snow flakes twirling around her.

I never liked the nexus mod, the guys that made it removed ALL sustianed mode visuals, i do not like only the stone armor one.
So for any person that want only Stone Armor to be gone, here is my mod.
It have polish description [since i make mods mainly for polish community, and im to lazy to make english descriptions for them], dont mind it.
Just download the file, unpack it and put the abi_base.gda in ur my documents bioware dragon age 2 override folder.
