I currently have 8MB free on my memory unit.  According to the back of the DAII box, it takes 6.5MB to save a game.  But when I attempted to start a game, I got a message saying that I didn't have enough memory to save.  So is that 6.5 figure inaccurate?  And if so, how much do I actually need?  I'd rather not delete anything that's still on the memory unit unless I absolutely have to.

It's 6 MB per save. The game creates Multiple Saves. a Year Save, Auto-Saves & Checkpoint Save. You will need more than just 8 MB.

Thanks for the help. Guess I'll have to delete my Origins save then. Was hoping to carry it over, but oh well.  The 190MB update I was forced to install before I could play this game made my memory card pretty much worthless. Thanks, Microsoft...(grumble)

What model xbox do you own, and are you planning on purchasing a harddrive? I think you can get them used fairly cheaply, plus any (almost) memory card will work with your system post microsoft patch.

I bought an Arcade in 2008, shortly after they went down to $200. And I'm thinking that I'll have no other alternative but to buy a harddrive. I went ahead and deleted my Origins file, as well as pretty much anything else I felt I could afford to lose, and it still wasn't enough. Guess you need more than 24MB, which is higher than any other game I've played on the console.

Since I still don't plan on getting on XBL, and thus downloading videos, demos and the like, I don't see why a 20GB harddrive wouldn't be more than enough for me. Some quick searching seems to put the best price for the 20GB between $25-30, unless anyone knows of somewhere I could get a better deal.

Do not delete anything!

You can use the USB Sticks (1GB to 16GB) for the extra storage now (Up to two USB Sticks at a time which provide you with up to 32 GB combined) :)

Too late to save my Origins file, unfortunately. Thanks for the tip about the USB sticks though. I had no idea they'd added that functionality, which shows just how closely I pay attention to their system updates :) That seems like a really good option for me, given my interests. I might go out and pick up a USB stick tomorrow. Thanks for helping to cheer me up at the end of what was a very frustrating day all the way around.

I went out and bought a 2GB SanDisk USB stick for a whopping $8, because no way was I shelling out $40 for the "official" 8GB USB they put out. It failed the initial test, but when I went into the second option (custom configuration or whatever), it worked fine and allowed me to copy my remaining save games over. I restarted the console multiple times, and also took the stick out several times to see if it would still maintain what I'd copied over, and all seems well. Hopefully it won't screw up now that I've moved my user profile over, because I doubt I'd be able recover that (since I've never been on XBL.)

I use Kingston DataTraveler 2GB USB Stick. No problems so far. I've got both my XBL profile and saves on it :)

Also, if you enable 'Show hidden files' on Windows, you can try creating a manual backup of your USB stick - just copy 'Xbox 360' folder to your PC. However, I've never tried to copy the data back to the USB stick and test it this way.
