I did a quick search, but due to the strange nature of the bug, I wasn't sure of the keyword, but I found nothing. So here I go:

The face of every character is "marked" by horizontal lines, and depressions on the cheeks. The arms are also bugged.

These pics show the overral bug. Shepard face show very small marks, so I didn't took a pic of him.

Well, to specs, first of all, it is the PC version, Steam version.

Processor:  Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHZ (2 cores, each at 3.00GHZ)

4 GB ram installed

GPU: Nvidia GeForce 6800 XT

GPU Driver version: 8.17.12.6099

Sound: Realtek HD Audio

Sound Driver Version: 6.0.1.6257

OS: Windows 7 - Ultimate Version

Directx version: Directx 11 is installed, but my GPU only support Directx 9

The problems details;

The nature of the problem is a texture bug. I already tried reinstalation, but it didn't fixed it at all.

Everyone got their faces bugged, everywhere. SInce the very start, to the very end of the game.

Most race, with each one having it's own differences.  While Wrex forehead lines are very obvious. Humans, Asari, Salarian and Turian are also bugged.

Quarian, Volus, Elcor, Hanar do not show these lines.

Feel free to ask anything you need to further help me in my problem.

Thanks for the attention!

Have you tried cleaning the local shader cache in the configuration tool->repair? You should note your graphics card barely makes the grade for ME1, and the NVIDIA drivers on Windows 7 for old cards are quite buggy and precarious. If the cache cleaning doesn't work, you could try changing driver version, but I suspect the most likely solution will be upgrading that graphics card.

Just for the record, I cannot access the sample images you posted (not allowed).

Edited the main post so the images are fixed.

Also, I previously thought that it could the the aged graphic card. I'm thinking of getting a new one still in this year.

I deleted the cache, and nothing changed. So I think I need to change the graphics card.

Thanks for the help anyway, much appreciated.

That looks pretty weird indeed. I assume turning off dynamic shadows in game doesn't help?

I had/have this issue also. It seems to appear only on nVidia graphic cards and is related to the newer drivers being somehow incompatible with Mass Effect. I tried reinstalling an older Geforce driver and the glitch was gone (search for a version <200). I did not try Mass Effect with the latest beta driver but I assume the issue persists there, too.

Cheers, Niko

Old graphics card + new drivers = errors. If you are usuing a really old Nvidia card don't use new drivers. It doesn't just effect ME1

Well, as long as my GeForce 7600 GS is still listed by NVIDIA as being compatible with a newer driver, I don't see why I should not use it or why there should be problems. So you cannot simply state that using old cards with new drivers always results in errors.

It was rather a coincident that I had an old Forceware driver installed when I played ME1 the first time and that I saw the glitch after updating my driver. Apart from that single issue with ME1, the new drivers work fine with all my old games.

There have been hundreds of cases of new drivers screwing up graphics on machines with older GeForce cards. Nvidia has a habit of working to optimise their latest cards while causing problems for older cards. More often than not people end up on here complaining about texture errors and it's solved via rolling back drivers.

This has been going on for a while and not just with Bioware games being effected. So don't get in a mood with me because you want to blame the issue on the game rarther than the fact you have a 6 year old graphics card that's barely compatible with the software Nvidia put out anymore.

Sorry if my response sounded "moody" (I'm from Germany, so my English might sometimes be misunderstandable). It's just that for me, Mass Effect was the first and only game that showed problems with my combination of an old graphics card and new drivers. I'm collecting computer games, so I have a lot of them, but probably I was simply lucky then to not stumble across other games that would have issues.

Btw. our core statement was the same: "If you are running Mass Effect with an old NVIDIA card, use an old driver to avoid the glitch in question."

I had the same problem.

Make sure you uninstall you drivers and PhysX drivers.

Then install these ones for a nvidia card
www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html

Worked for me.
