Alright, I've got to know. If I tell Anders to shove it when he asks me to distract Elthina, does she live? Or does the sanctimonious little pirck manage it without me? ... I KNEW there was something about him I didn't like, even back in Awakenings.
Elthina - SPOILER!!!!!

He still is able to kill her. He just goes off on his own and does it. Doesn't matter if you help him or not. It doesn't change that Elthina dies.

I think bioware successfully made me HATE a character. Like really hate and annoyed with.

Ditto. The fact that REALLY bugs me is that, in Awakenings, I was actually getting through to Justice. Making him see the shades of gray. There can't be anything left of him in Anders now, even he would see that this is wrong. It must be the Imperium or the Qunari? Blood magic in the streets or mages bound and chained like animals? Is what Thades has really so bad that it's worth risking either of those?
I'm going to kill him. I didn't think I could be more upset with a mage after Quentin or Merril... poor Keeper, (I was Dalish in DA:O).

Thanks. You just saved me 2 days of pointless runaround.

I personally wouldn't go quite so far, Kyosukedei. I personally hate the character and the way in which he forces my hand in the end, but Jennifer wrote him beautifully. I would never say he means "nothing". His methods are just something I could never agree with, and I feel compelled that I'll never be able to allow him to live (especially at the loss of Sebastian).

I tried to prevent it. I turned him down, then I reloaded a save and didn't start the quest at all. The result is the same. Anders murders the mothers and sisters of the Chantry.
I think of it as not being either Anders or Justice who did it. Both of them ceased to be the moment they were joined. This new person who calls himself Anders is a zealot, a butcher, and a monster who's willing to kill innocent people for his cause.

There is a youtube video of an Anders as a love interest... if you challenge him about what he's planning. Anders has second thoughts about his plan and says maybe there's time to stop what he's done... but then Vengeance steps in and refuses to back out of the plan. So... Anders has doubts about whether what he is doing is right... it's Vengeance that is truly behind the plan. Anders just isn't strong enough to hold him at bay anymore.
