Its kind of hard not to hate the mages.

2) Rogues were far more annoying in combat than any mage I ran into, and there are a LOT more rogues you have to fight than mages.
3) Anders was one man and doesn't represent all mages, plus he was a spirit-possessed abomination. Justice was too set in its ways and did not understand compromise.
4) Meredith attacks you too even if you side with the Templars.
For those reasons and more, I feel that it's people who suck, not specifically mages.

Either way both sides are wrong, wish I could take a third option like in New Vegas.

2) I agree, and I think Bioware went way too far with showing people the bad side to mages. Instead of evening the Templar/Mage conflict out, they just made mages crazy blood magic using lunatics.
3) Not really a reason to hate mages, but to hate Anders and his terrorist ways.
4) The whole Orsino thing p*ssed me off. Just when I thought I was backing a reasonable elf-mage, HE TURNS INTO A ******** HARVESTER!

Templars do their share of terrible things no less. And I imagine you agreed to use the Right of Annulment in DAO? If you're the kind of guy who'd condemn everyone of the same group for the work of a few, I suppose we have few to discuss.Pileyourbodies wrote...
Considering all the terrible act mages do throughout the game and considering what happened in the fereldan circle Meredith was being pretty reasonable. The mages in this game are very unlikable even some companions.

Yep. It leaves me wondering which lore is true, Origins, or DA2, because while I sympathized greatly with mages in Ferelden, while still understanding the templar position, here I just wanted to kill them all, except Cullen and Thrask.Dangerfoot wrote...
I really wish there had been more than 3-5 total mages in the entire game that didn't turn to blood magic or become abominations.

Hold on now, Anders was the only one who blew up the Chantry. Blaming all mages for that is unfair. And comparing mages to terrorists is also wrong because that's just what Bioware decided to show us. What about mages in the Circle? (NOT the secretly crazy Orsino) Or... that elven kid Feyendril? He just wanted to be left alone. Or that one Orlesian noble who pretended to be a blood mage because he thought it would help him score with women?Pileyourbodies wrote...
You can feel sorry for them but that doesn't make what they did right. I feel sorry for the suicide bombers doesn't mean i support them their cause or even their faith.
I just think that Bioware took a very heavy-handed approach by not showing any examples of normal, Maker-fearing mages. Everyone was possessed in some way... I mean hell, of course it's going to make mages look bad if there isn't even one example of a peaceful mage besides Hawke (and possibly Bethany). Eh... aside from the ones I just mentioned. You know what I meant.

EDIT: The right of annulment is also really stupid becasue it easily wipes out the good mages, and the blood mages and abominations will still kill all the templars... shooting-foot-self much?

Blaming all mages is unfair but the general population wouldn't know if he was apostate and not arguably it wouldn't matter, he was still a mage.
The mages throughout the game do several rather bad acts, the blood mage cabal that captured Karass(the guy they were going to implant a demon with) is a classic manchruian canidate situation.
The mages in the circle were in collusion with blood mages considering how many go to blood magic and the group with thrask is lead by a circle mage who was a blood mage.
The elf kid already had 2 demons try to possess him and they would have done it if Hawke hadn't won
The Orlesian guy should have been killed, Zero tolerance means Zero tolerance. It sucks he didn't deserve to die but should have been, I spare him because i'm not a templar but if i was he would be dead you can't risk that stuff.
Tenshi the rite of annulment is when a circle is beyond redemption, its a sad fact and good people do die but sometimes you cannot take a risk that the corrpution has spread to even good people. Sometimes to get to a good goal bad things must happen.

Almost everything in dragon age 2 made me hate the mages. 1) your sister and andres alway complain about everything. 2) it seems like very single mage uses blood magic to summon countless demons to kill you.3) andres decides to blowup the chantry out of no where and start a war. and last if you do decide to help the mages there leader turn into a fat demon and attacks you.
It's hard to not hate the templars as well.
They did a good job of evoking strong emotional reactions to both sides of the political turmoil, a great cinematic feat.
They did an utterly poor job at creating strong gameplay experiences from those feelings, a great design failure.

AMEN! People just plain suck. Even when you start to trust people, they go out of their way to prove why you shouldn't.
Even the main character sucks. Mainly because half of your life is spent between a rock and a hard place; no one can make the right decision all the time because there isn't one. No matter what you choose SOMEBODY is pissed off enough to come hunt you down.
But I do have to say, I have yet to meet a mage in this game that I didn't want to gut sideways. My sister included.
