Considering another restart... I'll never see the end of the game at this rate, oi...
Anyway, brainstroming character ideas while at work (I told my parents someday I'd get paid to write!) and I'm leaning towards the build noted in the thread title. I'm just looking for advice on making a useful "dps" kind of guy, in light-to-medium armor. I know I had one wasted talent slot in my Human Noble Warrior build (the Sheild Bash) since he was a 2hander, what talents and skills do a Human Rogues begin with? Trying to plan out my skill and talent advancement ahead of time.
My party will most likely be Morrigan, Alistair and a rotation of Dog, Shale and Wynne.
Also, I plan to do this with the dagger hotfix, assuming it works.

Try to avoid lockpicking/stealing and make an henchmen take those.
Use lockpickers after you've cleared out a dungeon.

If you're not going to run with another rogue, then you'll probably want your PC to be a DPS/utility type of rogue, right? To open locks and disarm traps?
In that case, take Strength to 20 so you can wear the best light armor, 36 dex (I think?) to equip the best daggers, then put the rest in Cunning. Make sure you take Lethality, as it allows your daggers to take a damage bonus from your Cunning score instead of Strength. This is critical to make daggers worthwhile.
A strength build rogue may do more damage than the dex/cunning dagger rogue, but you have to sacrifice most of your utility and as the other poster says, you'll be running through a dungeon twice: once to kill everything, and a second time to loot. This may or may not be appealing to you.

Also, rogue questions... how useful are Stealth and Trapmaking? Can you or your allies step on your own traps? Also stealth just seems useless... i've always been spotted the few times i've used it, and it seems like the free crit you get from the first attack would be hampered by the fact that your rogue is now away from the party and surrounded by enemies.
I was thinking, DPS/Utility, yeah. Not interested in stealing, but I was thinking Stealth, at least two levels of Deft Hands, but mostly the Dual Wield, Dirty Fighting and Below the Belt trees.

Stealth is great actually, because a high damage rogue is pretty likely to draw attention to himself. High Cunning and 4th tier stealth will allow you to sneak past any mob in the game and allows you to stealth in combat which can save your hide. Really depends on how you play though. I haven't played around with traps myself much, but poisons are definitely good.

You can either concentrate on dual-wield, duelist and assassin spec and get very good dps if you also pick Lethality and make sure to position your PC behind enemies to get backstabs.
Or you can do a more utility rogue who can open chests and use stealth to recon areas and set traps. Both are efficient I think.
The 3rd tier stealth talent also allows you to stealth in combat, which takes enemies off you and gives a free crtical hit, which is quite useful.
