The basic view of abominations is that a spirit from the Fade merges with the body of a living mage. Anders seems like an ideal subject as a case study, given how there seems to be a level of balance between him and Justice/Vengence. We don't often see that in abominations; in most, the demon seems to take full control, while others are virtually unnoticable as with Wynne. I just want to throw some ideas out there and see what you guys think.

With most abominations, is the host's mind stepping back or outright evicted?
With Wynne, is her supposed Spirit of Faith too shy to pop up or are they so compatible that they mesh perfectly?
What about Uldred? Was he Uldred with Pride Demon backup, PD doing a good Uldred impression, or blend?
What implications do you think this has on the Baroness of Blackmarsh (in Awakening)?

Discuss away. Feel free to pose your own questions for discussion as well.

Wynne's spirit never took control.

According to Anders's description, being while being possessed, you are fully aware of events going around you, but you can't control anything.

Uldred was already possessed. He just didn't manifest it until it was time to fight, as he was secretly gathering support until he could overthrow the Circle.

Not really sure of anything regarding the Baroness.

I think it's more like a scale from 0-10, rather than either you're an abomination or you're not.

If you're at 0, you're not a mage. I think as long as you're a mage, you'll be influenced by the fade. because that's where your power come from.

from 1-3 it'd be like Wynne, either the mage is not aware of the demon/spirit interference, or he/she can make free choices based on his/her own reasoning.

from 3-7 it'd be the mage kind of aware of the demon/spirit, like Feyrine the dreamer. but still can make conscious choices.

From 7-9, it's like Anders, he's part of the demon, but retain some humanity, he looks normal act normal, but his choices are not his own, or at least largely influenced by demon inside him. This is the most dangerous kind I think, it's like crazy person saying: I'm not crazy. But in fact he needs help.

At 10: Mage turn into full abomination, ugly looking demons who just want to destroy and kill. This kind is easy, you know right away, and you can kill it.

I think Uldred is like Anders, he's probably 8 or 9.
