I remember seeing one somewhere on the forums before. No luck now. Unless there's a search function I'm failign to find, can anyone direct me towards it?

You can't change the Armor for companions in this game just, upgrades which you buy or get from quests. There are accessories like amulets and rings if thats what you mean.

No, he's refering to one of two things. Either the armor upgrades you can buy/find, or the requirements for the second outfits that some characters unlock. I only noticed Merrill and Anders swapping their costumes myself.

 The DA wiki has a page on where to find companion armor upgrades (very minor spoilers...you may be able to glean stuff from some of the quest names/descriptions listed on this page):

Anders, Merill, and Isabela all change their armor appearance if they are romanced (Isabela's is kind of bugged - you need to have her use Maker's Sigh before her armor actually changes). I don't know if Fenris does the same thing - being the last romance option - so I'll leave that up to somebody else to clarify.

Anders and Merril were the only ones I had success with in my playthrough as well
