I played a diplomatic Hawke and am now running through the snarky Hawke. They both play well.

I think they're both excellent, though. M!Shepard's voice in Mass Effect was so awful I couldn't do a playthrough as him, I couldn't stand it.

When doing the Tali romance, one of his lines sounds like he's talking to a brick wall.
Albeit... a very sexy brick wall.

I confess: I didn't think I'd be able to play a male Hawke, because OMGWTFVAUGHAN! I've played the Tabris origin story about eight times now, and I always save and reload in the Vaughan fight to make sure I get the head shot. After a while though, I got over it, except for the occasional similar line, and I even feel like the voice is right for my version of the character. I'd still prefer not to have a fully-voiced PC, but it's not as bad as I'd feared.

I found female Hawke to be incredibly bland. Not bad, just a serious disconnect with what I thought the character should sound like.

Yeah, I played through the demo as male Hawke, and I had that reflexive urge to stab my own player character in the face. I'll just have to think of him as Ser Bryant instead and do a full runthrough with him.
Snarky female Hawke was great.

This, thank you. You worded it much more effectively than I did. xDrumination888 wrote...
Male Hawke sounds like a shizo if you don't choose the same path over and over.

Jennifer Hale is nothing short of amazing, so it's hard to top her as Female Shephard.
But the actor for Male Hawke has such a great dynamic range that the "subdued" delivery on female Hawke comes off as horrible monotone. Now if you just put FemShep and MaleHawke together in one game you would have voice acting face off for the ages!

I like them both. I think the male Hawke puts more kick into some lines ("Was that why you needed me to distract the grand cleric" comes to mind), but the sarcastic female Hawke is so far equally good with the male Hawke in my opinion.
This. That comment from MHawke was... 100 times more "OMG I helped you do this?!" kind of feeling when he spoke, than the FHawke. The emotion in that comment from MHawke almost made me choke up.

That followed by the similar snarl of absolute bitterness in his voice when he says "I don't want to get involved" immediately afterwards made for one of the best line deliveries for MHawke. Nicholas Boulton is so pitch-perfect in this game.

Sarcastic female Hawke is hands down my favorite. Her stupid one liners and charming personality mkae her one of my favorite video game protagonist ever.

I wish she'd had more trouble speaking because she was crying, but beggars can't be choosers.

I like both male and female Hawke. There's some lines that sound better one one actor, but I enjoy them both. Female Hawke's exasperated sigh and frustration during Aveline's quest was just priceless. But to echo what Calla S said above, female Hawke does not sound larger than life constantly, she sounds like a real person forced to make choices, a welcome reprieve in games today.
So I like them both, I didn't have the massive turnoff from one actor like I did with Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2.
I agree. I also think male Hawke's sarcastic lines sound too biting, like he is attacking you with his 'amazing' wit, whereas fem Hawke sounds like she is actually enjoying the irony of the situation at hand, like she's is more patronsing. The male Hawke sounds agressive all the time and I want him to reign it in (may be a case of male testosterone).

I find the snarky Female Hawke to have more of a reserved, dry wit, while a snarky Male Hawke is clearly enjoying and playing up their reputation of being somewhat of a clown, as it better throws people off guard.
