I'm a straight male gamer, and I'd have to say the only offputting bit about this game was Anders literally trying to jump my stick after meeting him, especially after just playing through awakening so soon before DA2 came out, it felt like he was a different person (different voice actor though, jeesh which whining emo did they hire this time?).

There are NOT more pedophiles than homosexuals, and the difference is two consenting adults are mature enough to make their own damn decisions about who they want to keep them warm at night. Kotor allowed you a single romance period as either a man or a woman. Mass Effect offers two at most. Are we really going to make a big deal about Bioware because they create a single 'straight male' option? If you are a straight male, go for Isabela. Or even Merrill.

See the bolded part right there? That's the part where you just lost any credibility you had left. Not that there was a lot left in the first place.

I find the opposite to be true.  I can let some gameplay issues slide in an RPG setting should it provide greater story elements and opportunity to interact with characters in a meaningful way.  I would even go so far as to say that I could have done with more interactions between Hawke and his/her allies and received more fully fleshed characters that I grew to know and love and perhaps "love." 

This is the type of argument that RPGs tend to find since they first made the leap to video games.  Some people argue for a better video game and others argue for a greater stories and characters.  It's incredibly difficult to please both sides fully (particularly in these difficult economic times where budgets and deadlines are firmer than ever before.)

Right there: 1 in 4 Democrats and 1 in 2 Republicans have a negative attitude toward gays. Doesn't mean they want to kill them all or punish somehow, but I doubt they approve of the propagation of this whole GLBT thing.

Because all estimates in other primary sources I cared to check out seemed to have been based of some silly question like "Have you ever experienced something homosexual in your life?" It's like asking a man if he has ever smoked, and writing him down as a smoker if he says "yes", even though he quit 20 years ago and condemns this bad habit.

I wouldn't engage him any further.  Once folks start equating child rape with a consensual relationship between two adults, they identify themselves as too looney for discussion.

That would be nice, yes! Though I'd like to add that I would like this option for a female Hawke too. Just a dialogue option where I gently let Anders down, saying I'm not interested in him in that way. (not that my Hawke is exactly the best when it comes to tact in the first place, heh.)

I like Bioware for the fact that they acknowledge there are people other than your proverbial "STRAIGHT MALE" playing their games.

I also wonder what your definition of what a "straight male" is. Is it somebody who can't handle a few men flirting you up, that there may be more women than men for characters, that the women characters aren't complete sex objects (god forbid that one is butch [Aveline])?

If the game doesn't cater to your "straight male" sentiments, then go play any other game out there. There's enough sexist/racist/homophobic gaming material garbage out there to keep you happy.

Thank you, Bioware, for making a game that allows me to play out MY fantasy girl: a tough, non-sexualized queer woman with jet black hair. I'd like it if you could make people of color a more realistic possibility ('black' people look like white people with bad tans), and that you might incorporate different body sizes into the game.

I felt a bit sorry for the guys who play this game because not only is Isabella a bit of a free and easy gal but she also a bit of an itch and little merril is so sweet and lovable but also a bit simple. However maybe in the romantic scenes you get to know them better and they have a lot more depth. Being a straight female I have loved the Anders romance and I am also so excited about getting to know the dark and deep Fenris too. Oh beautiful Sebastion you are such a let down.

I also think the friendships in this game are wonderful, especially Aveline and Varric, they are truely great characters, I love them!

I so miss the stop and chat anytime dialogue system from Origins but I think Biware did a good job with the characters considering the short time in development. I am enjoying them a lot.

If you don't like the romances, don't select the heart dialogue option. It's simple. Merrill has never hit on my Lady Hawke, not once. Anders actually didn't either. Isabela...well, she's Isabela. I actually love her to pieces and find her to be hilarious. Fenris was the last LI I did, so...

...but really. If you don't like it, don't do it. Just don't advocate taking it away from everyone else.

Ha! Seriously though i can't even talk to Anders or anymore after he made flirtatious advances after our first conversation and got prissy after i turned him down. Bioware ruined a potential awkward free male  friendship I could have had. The romantic music they continute to play when you talk to Fenris despite awkwardly turning down his flirting as well certainly doesn't help anything either.
