Constitution: Increases health and physical resistance.
Cunning: Increases defense for all classes and critical chance damage.

Defense increases the chance of deflecting, dodging or parrying incoming attacks from an enemy which he/she would either miss or inflict only minimal damage. Is cunning worth investing in instead of constitution?

For a mage no, cause cunning wont help against magic attacks and also if at least you have some health then you could potentially survive an assassins back stab and when you have pure cunning you wont survive you will just die in one shot.
