The police treat all people they pull over like they are criminals, they do this for their own safety.
Why all the hate for mages?

Stealing Children at young ages, to lock them away in a remote training facility, for virtually no reason but them being born with certain powers, and mercilessly butchering anyone who even dares question the temples rules? Sound familiar?
Because that's what the jedi do. The two differences between the Jedi Order and the Circles are that the jedi are self governed (meaning they've got constant quarrels with just about anyone politically involved), and that the Jedi care enough to brainwash their six year old recruits, where the templars simply don't care if anyone gets to keep their free will in the circles.
Acknowledging the fact, that mages are a much more real risk if left alone, and that circle mages aren't (to my knowledge) forced into military service, and the Jedi order is kind of... you know, worse.

Actually the Circles are much more free than that. they take you when you show magical abilities rather than mandatory testing like the jedi seem to have for the entire civilization.

That must be why we can refer to the Circle az slavery. That must be why others in the story refer to it as slavery. That must explain why the Circles rebel and break free from the Chantry.

I can understand the hate, Mages are very powerful and can do ALOT of damage if unchecked, i do think the Templars are doing it the wrong way, they should be watched to make sure demons don't gain a foothold, but they shouldn't be treated like criminals.
The Templars treat all mages as if they WILL be possessed, its totally wrong, its the Templars own fault on how the game ended up, if only they were more relaxed, still keeping an eye on them, but not treating them like crap.
I pretty much agree with this.

Because Kirkwall is filled with nothing but blood mages and abominations.
The only non-blood mage/abomination is Bethany.
And whenever you go out of your way to help a mage they come back a few years later and BAM they're blood mages bent on destroying you because THEY failed to stay hidden. It can't be too damn hard, Anders hasn't taken a step left or right in 4 years!
