It must suck to work at Bioware!

I was thinking, and I have came to the conclusion that the worst job in the entire world would have to be a developer for ME3.

Instead of submerging yourself in the highly anticipated conclusion of this amazing triligoy, a developer at BW would just be looking at his own work in action. They already know exactly what's going to happen, how it's going to happen, and how it's going to look. Probably criticizing every little detail while playing through the game. It would be hard to focus on the awesomeness that I'm sure ME3 will deliver. Instead, they would be nitpicking at every iota of content that they didn't get 100% the way they wanted it.

So here's to you Bioware! You truly are making the ultimate sacrifice! Giving up the opportunity to indulge yourself in these amazing titles that you manage to produce, so that the common man (and woman) can escape this harsh and unforgiving game we call "life" to experience a natural extacy.

To all the developers at BW, you have my undying gratitude. Thank you.

That is not what I was expecting to read with that thread title, was totally waiting on the nerd rage and then was pleasantly surprised by something that we don't see enough of around here:

Gratitude.

I just hope PC gamers only have to deliver $50 worth of gratitude instead of $60 worth of gratitude.

It's the curse of game development. You can create something beautiful and majestic, but could never really enjoy it the same way we could. On the other hand, the pleasure of bringing satisfaction to millions(and assumably dissatisfaction to trolls) clearly outweighs the demerits of that. Besides, there are so many top-notch games in the industry these days, there's plenty to enjoy besides the one they're making.

There are many parts that create a whole. I don't think the sound SFX editor knows every detail of the story.

Being a writer myself (not an author unfortuantely :P) I would love to see my writing in action, as a game, movie, tv-series or whatnot. Being able to tell a story and seeing others unravel the mysteries I've hidden and knowing that people played and loved (or hated, as long as they have an opinion) what I created would be a huge payoff. Then they have plenty of other games to play, I'm sure they're not very involved in the development of Dragon Age 2 expansions and Dragon Age 3, The Old Republic etc.

However being a Quality Assurance guy at Bioware must suck, playing and bugtesting all of Biowares games during their alpha and beta stages and not being able to experience the story and narrative like I do now would really put a dent in my gamer-existence.

who cares if it's self acreditedation?  testing a game is a horrible job only fun at first... anyone who can deal with that for hours a day has my respect.

Gratitude towards Bioware on these forums tends to be proportional to a) how much information they release, and B) How much the devs interract with the fans on the forum.

All they care about it is how much it sells.

You think they didn't know that DA2 won't be liked? They cut corners and rushed it just to cash in on DAO's success.

For me, in regards to a good game, nothing compares to that very first play though. Both in terms of positive (there is a surprise around each corner) and negative things (now I've messed up my play through and made it harder / more annoying because of it). Whil esubsequent play through I can tailer the game to the way I want it or try things out (meta gaming) and that gives me tons of fun. It still doesn't compare to that first play through (e.g. the first time I actually played through the intro sequence to ME1, first time I couldn't save Tombs, etc.) something I imagine won't be possible in case one worked on a product. At least not to the same extent.

I have to be honest as I havent played DA 2 yet I will reserve judgement on its quality however I am rather shocked at the huge amount of nerd rage on the DA forum, is it really all that bad?!

Let's put it like that: It got worse press reviews than any other Bioware game in a decade. Seing how almost every Biwoare game over the last decade scored around 90% and up however this means it is only bad in comparison to those. The game itsself is still better than most of the stuff you can get out there, just "not good for a Bioware game" especially when compared directly to their last few games (ME1, ME2 and of course DA1)

That said I guess there is another reason why it sucks way more to work at Bioware. You put all that hard work into creating these games (and most people wouldn't believe how much work it actually is) and as a reward you get people like us comming here calling the game bad allthough most of us couldn't even create one of the loading screens at the quality Bioware does let alone a whole game.

So kudos Bioware and sorry for b*tching around so much. (try to see the bright side though. As long as people complain they actually also care. A lot)

Having a metascore of 84, I think not.

I worked as a developer (not on games, obviously) for a few years and its a cool feeling to look at a cool product and think "I did that." There are so many little details that we overlook but add so much to a game but the developer sits back with pride and admires. It could just be some ambient sounds or a character animation or some background art.

They put endless hours into building and polishing it and we brush past it like its not even there, but they know its there and if were suddenly removed then everyone would instantly notice. Yet, they get almost no praise for it, no recognition, but they know its there and that's enough.

Imagine Bioware has created a whole universe from scratch with just a couple games and books. It's pretty amazing.

Thank you I thought that was pretty much the case, from the few reviews I have read they were pretty good, but as you say not exactly fantastic in comparison to the likes of the ME and DAO ones. Either way I will still purchase it at some point.
