well im up to level 18, there are no other quests showing anywhere except the bone pit massacre. so there i was pooping myself over the high dragon when 2 drakes come along and start attacking aveline......one bit, took health away, the other bit and put it back to full! problem is now she does no damage what so ever and she cannot die either (fun fun im sure!) my other 3 members died after getting high dragon to half health (used mage hawke, anders, avaline and varric) so i can now go and make a cup of tea while the 2 drakes squabble over that to do with aveline, come back and im still where i was!
this has driven me around the bend as i cant do anything but this one mission now! and i really want to find out what the hell anders was up to as this has never come up. It seems to me i am only 1/2 way through the game if that, as there seems to be no finish point to anything yet. So is this right, i should only have the bone pit massacre available??? merril hasnt got the mirror to work, fenris still has the hump, anders is up to no good (i assume, as he asked hawke to go to the chantry and bug her holyship lol), varric is now in the hanged man and aveline has just got it on with her guardsman???
help! if this is right how do you kick HD's butt?!

If that is truly the only quest you have, then yes, I believe something is wrong. You probably need to load an earlier save. Not sure how something that major would get past QA, but you probably triggered some hugely improbable string of events that caused an epic bug.
My only other advice is check your mail at the mansion. You sometimes get quests there without the quest arrow telling you.
