Sadly, it seems only Game is listing DA 2 in either 1st or 2nd spot at the moment on their charts in the UK. :(

I did some digging earlier.

But, I did also see the site saying DA 2 is at the top of the charts.

http://www.joystiq.c...uk-sales-chart/

There are a few other articles as well. So, if the articles are still true, then a lot of the sales must come from websites I don't know of or from retailers where online sales don't count (i.e. ones posted to customers).

The thing to remember is that online sales for most things tend to still only count for 15-20% of a retail business' sales unless they are something like Amazon. A majority of the populace still buy from brick and mortar stores - so using Amazon or any other website will only give you a loose trend. They aren't heavily reliable sources for overall sales figures.

The real figures aren't likely to be known for a few months yet. Bioware will have a much better idea of how many units are shipping than we do.

From what I'm hearing - and based on the fact that all the local stores bought up large stock and have almost sold out to the point of reordering - DA2 is looking to be selling very well.

Remember FF13? The game a lot of fans panned and claimed was a failure? It sold 6 million copies despite rampant internet pessimism and there is a sequel on the way. The moral of the story? Don't trust the internet to always know how well a game is selling. In retail they have a saying - those who are unhappy tell 10 people, those who are happy tell 5. The negative opinions will always be the most vocal ones.

If I can just go by personal stories, the buzz for this game has gotten a lot of my gamer coworkers, who never played DA:O, to buy it.  And they're loving it.  They keep asking if they should get the first one....and to be honest, I don't know how to answer them.  These people aren't RPG kind of people.  The first game is much more of an old school rpg style.  Bioware has accomplished getting that broader audience, at least from my own personal accounts.

Ironically, FF13 is the game that DA2 defenders bash to make DA2 look good. The user scores don't reflect how good the game is; it just shows that Bioware is no longer perceived as the plucky beloved independant developer, but they are perceived as the big evil greedy corporation now by the internet brigade.

Someone took that personal.  I'm not hurt, dude.  My concern is that all of that trolling will kill this franchise. And I enjoy spending my time playing the games.  And I also have issue with some of the complaints.  I don't believe half those people even played the game.

I'll tell you another thing.  As a writer, myself, all I want is a fair review for my work. I'm pretty sure the folks at Bioware want the same. I don't think this game is getting that.  Just nerdrage of the most unhealthy kind.

That's what it comes down to yeah. As a writer, I'm sure you know that critiques are supposed to be given respectfully as that's what we're taught. I've only said something was utter rubbish 'once' in around 6 years of writing fiction and frequenting writing forums (and that was only because I felt the individual was trolling etc.). A lot of the criticism given isn't done so respectfully.

I've said before people should write something and post it on a forum, then see how they feel when it gets called utter trite.

They wouldn't like it.

And as for people becoming upset over the bashing, I don't think Persephone meant he/she is actually 'upset'. Rather, she/he's dissapointed for BioWare. I can feel for others as well, even if it doesn't affect me personally. (I'd like to see the series continued though, so I guess you could say it does affect me in a way I suppose.)

They really don't deserve all of the bashing, even if the game isn't perfect, which it isn't. And most of what's said now was said before release. Even discarding that, people are constantly posting that DA 2 has failed and wishing that another game isn't made. It's taking things a 'tad' too far. (A massive understatement)

And that is what really bothers me.  Why would anyone campaign to end a franchise they claim they enjoy? An example:  I was disappointed witih Fallout: New Vegas.  But I never felt compelled to go online and tear down Bethesda. (Or Obsidian...it's one or the other...I can never remember who put out Fallout.Posted Image).  I thought, "well, maybe the next one will be better."  The end.  There was nothing more to do.  I could name a dozen games where that applies.  But I never once trolled critic sites, Facebook postings, etc, etc.  But I think those people are starting to die out.  I think the reasonable people who have issues with the game, but still find it solid, are just now finishing the game and giving their thoughts.  And Bioware DOES listen to their fans.  As long as it's not raging nonsense.

I think Bioware knew exactly what they were doing right from the start. I don't think they're so stupid, they don't realize how much is wrong with the game. It all comes down to the deadline EA set for them. Good RPG games, however, are not made in a year or even two.

I don't get why so many people are freaking out over the metacritic score since is not reflective of the overall gaming populations thoughts on the game. Here are some user scores for other online communities.

Gamefly:  8.4
Gamespot:  8.3
IGN:  7.6
Gamestop:  8.4

It seems like almost every 0/10 review has only one review on the entire website. (or 3 copy/pasting on the PC, 360, and PS3 of DA2)

I noticed this also.  Almost everyone who gave the game a 0/10 posted the exact same review across all three platforms.  It is a deliberate act of sabotage and defamation.  Some articles that have popped up have pointed this out, so I am hoping that this game remains successful despite these acts.  I want Dragon Age to live on. ^^

Actually I only just signed up about a day ago just to post my 1/10 review that Dragon Age 2 is disappointing. I haven't posted it on the other platform games but thanks for the idea!

Hopefully fans of the series will find my review helpful in considering Dragon Age 2.

I'm not buying that.  This game is not a 1.  Come on, really?  Did you finish the game?  Did you get any farther than Lothering?  DA:O had dreadfully slow parts and a gltichy combat system.  Did you give that a one because of those issues?  I don't want to get into a bickering fight, but you sound spiteful.

You do know that from reading those quests and notes the location of the recipient are told, right? LOL

Given that there is a larger console community than PC - and thus they are the deciding "vote" so to speak as to whether there will be a DA3 and what that game will be like - I'd say that proves everything.

And as a console gamer myself, it is not dumbed down - nor is it an action "dynasty warriors/Kingdom Hearts" game. It plays like a western RPG and requires tactical thinking, stategic maneuvering and planning.

Gamespot PC user score: 7.2

Also the metacritic score for the console versions is also in the gutter so pointing out that their respective communities actualy rate the game alot higher is still relevant.

As you stated before, you are entitled to your opinion and I try to respect everyone's opinion and outlook on things. However, when you state how you might just go copy and paste your 1/10 score/review  that you left on metacritic for the PC version to the other two platforms just to "spread the word on how much this game fails", and then you make comments like that one above..... well, it makes it hard to take your opinions very serious.  And that's why I've jumped on these forums aggressively this time around. DA2 is getting unfair, biased hate from people who did not get exactly what they wanted. Dragon Age evolved.  Get over it.  Please, move on. Consider the franchise dead to yourself, get off these forums, and live happily ever after with Elder Scrolls or whatever PC games you consider superior.  But don't go trying to sabotage what some of us still love and consider a solid, and enjoyable game.

I'm sorry I have to approach it in that matter, but you guys take your "disappointment" and "criticism" way too far.

I have to agree here. I am sick of hearing people say that they need to "punish" Bioware for "betraying" them. Well you're aiming to punish those of us who paid good money for a game we enjoy.

I agree - get over it and either move on or make your case for what you would prefer and accept that Bioware may or may not agree with your criticisms.

Lying and sabotaging the scores dishonestly does nothing for your case and only goes to show that maybe such customers are not the fans that Bioware wants. I'm sure they would prefer people who are honest and willing to engage in calm, constructive criticism rather than raging dirty tactics.

I think it's rather tragic to read what's going on there. Now, I am not saying that it isn't justified to write negative reviews, that's perfectly within people's rights. But the abuse the game, Bioware and those who dared to voice a positive opinion on there are enduring is downright shameful. I know this happens around release days and maybe I'm just too sensitive but it just makes me terribly sad. I am a huge Bioware fan, I love pretty much all of their games (Except DAA) .........to see the fanbase I'm a part of acting in such a fashion....I dunno. It's terrible. Reading about people who never even played it bashing DA2 "on principle", positive reviews being attacked.....isn't that going a bit too far?:crying:

Yes, indeed it is going too far. Even developers are entitled to opinions about their game. After all, it was in the user review section, which is plagued with people giving the game terrible scores which are not based upon anything rational or logical. The user review section is just a cesspool, it embodies what the internet could fall into if allowed.

DA2 is an amazing game, its sad that people are missing out on this great experience. I enjoyed the game and that is all that matters to me. If someone wants to hate a game needlessly there is nothing I can do about other than point and laugh at their idiocy.

why 'betrayal'? they promised some features and didn't give it? deliberately sabotaging the game's future is very childish and selfish. Now, I really wish the game is a huge success so that DA 3 will happen (irrespective of whether they do it Origins way or the new way).. Can't afford to buy all my friends the game but I've sent the screenshots with a mini review to all my gaming friends. Hopefully few of them will buy it

DA2 is by no means a *bad* game. sure there are issues. (beam me up scotty like spawning that's done way too often. Qeue image of scotty beaming mobs in yelling ANOTHER WAVE! and reused maps, which i have to say is almost insulting. but there also good things. focusing on only the bad and giving 0 credit for the good things about a game is just plain immature. and i daresay i could qualify it as trolling a perfectly good discussion about the good, the bad, and the ugly in ANY game. there's a constructive criticism topic for people who registered their copies of the game. you'll find much more balanced, and mature, views of the game there.. from what i've read here, a lot of people are just trolling to stir up a lot of hate. and it's working.

I'm a PC gamer, and the behavior/attitudes of other PC gamers over this whole thing is starting to disgust me. I'm cool with people who have posted intelligent, constructive criticsm in the forums about things that they don't like or that didn't work. I mean, heck, after playing the game, I agree that the reused maps in caves were excessive and should have been more unique, along with other quibbles (including FedEx quests). I think there have been a number of good points made in discussions on the forums.

However, those who have some kind of vendetta and want to "punish" the company just because BW didn't make the second coming of BG2 (again) seem to be engaging in astoundingly low and petty behavior, especially when they claim some sort of moral/intellectual high ground (along with claiming to be mature) based solely on the fact that they have a shinier and more complicated machine upon which to play their little games.

I liked DA2, but I haven't bothered to post a user review on metacritic or anywhere else. Maybe I should register just to do that because the game was a solid 8.5 for me. Ah well, the "true" RPG fans are unhappy, so they apparently have a God-given right to actively try to destroy what they don't like even through the basest means, salting the earth behind them even though there are actually people who like the game and the attempt to do something different.

Yeah, I'm sure Bethesda and CD Projekt will enjoy having to deal with the "true" RPG fans if/when they ever put out a game that isn't the sacred embodiment of everything that the "true" RPG fans hold dear. Despite liking the BG series and many older RPGs, liking DA2 probably disqualifies me from being a "true" RPG fan at this point, and considering the increased level of hostility, immaturity and boorish behavior I've seen in the forums alone, I'm glad if I'm not counted in those ranks anymore.

It's getting a lot of negative reviews because of the high standard of Origins and Bioware tag, which carries very high expectations, which Bioware didn't live up to.

Remove Dragon Age from the game's name and it would not be judged as harshly. It would just be another action/adventure game with JRPG inspired fighting and characters.

This is exactly it. People are perhaps taking it to far but the game is getting a great deal of negative press precisely because of the name Dragon Age. It doesn't remotely live up to Origins and that is why it is seeing such harsh treatment by fans of both Origins and Bioware in general. Professional reviews are still coming out and each one scores the game lower than the last. The metacritic rating is 83 right now for the game, I'd be willing to bet that is by a large margion the lowest metacritic score for any of their games. The industry watches those scores, I just hope they listen as well as EA.

I'm a hardcore Bioware fan myself. I've loved every one of their games since MDK2 (look it up if you don't know what MDK is). Even Jade Empire which was blasted as their worst game up to that point, once the PC version hit I loved it. But DA2 is such a break from their usual greatness that I have been unable to drag myself into even the second chapter of the game. It's not because of the wierd jRPG combat, or the one sided characters or even the lack of a real story, it's the absolute lack of depth to the game that I cant get past. DA:O had so much depth, so much character and backstory and history to the world. My steam profile shows more than 300 hours of DA:O played and much of that has been doing side quests, digging up lore, exploring areas, playing through companion stories and more. Adversly shows just 16 hours of DA2 played and I've done and found everything their is to do in act 1. Granted DA:O was in development for more than five years, so thats to be expected. But it was the deepest, riches rpg game they had made since Bulder's Gate 2 (and my absolute favorite since that game). Dragon Age 2 is like the redheaded stepchild with a learning disability and ADD compared to Origins. I'm sorry bioware but it's true.

In the end I blame EA more than Bioware. Once they got their grubby paws on Bioware they clearly forced them to create a sequel that would appeal to the sheeple and to have a complete game within a year and three months. Bioware has never made a game so fast, hell most of their games have taken 3+ years to make because they have such an amazing attention to detail. So in the end, it's EA I blame. But at least DA2's lackluster response and sales (so I hear, mind Origins is Biowares best selling game of all time) perahps the suits will decree that Bioware can take a little longer on the next game. One can only hope.

My first play-through I thought DA2 was maybe a 5 or 6 out of 10. It was almost exclusively because of the differences between it and Origins. So many small things had changed that it didn't quite feel the same to me, it seemed like a spin off game from a copy cat company.

But now I'm on my second play-through, and in love with the game. Let the game stand on it's own merit and judge as a separate game than Origins. It's not a sequel, it never claimed to be a sequel. It took me two play-through's to realize this. When I compare DA2 to other games on the market it stands out from the crowd to me, as most games are thin and are the same story as the last game.

So many say DA2 is good, but it's flawed. Does anyone remember Origins? Origins had glitches and flaws aplenty.

Take some time and play the game, read some lore, don't jump to conclusions and say its garbage before you really give it a shot on it's own merit. My review went from a 5or6/10 to 8.5/10. When has BW really let me down, from Baldurs Gate to KOTOR, Mass Effect, Dragon age..... They've never let me down.

Anyone who hasn't yet, and likes DA2, get on Metacritic and give and honest review as honest gamers and fans. Bioware is getting treated really poorly and it's embarrassing to the gaming community.

And why does anyone think Bioware owes them anything? Betrayed? That's silly, I can't anyone who says the feel betrayed seriously in the first place.

*sigh*

And here we go again. Frankly, I find DA2 is a vast improvement over DA:O. It has it's flaws, no denying, and there are things that DA:O does well - but overall, DA2 is the better game in my opinion.

As always, YMMV. But saying that it doesn't live up to Origins is not a factual statement.

Origins was a generic epic fantasy where all the flavour of Thedas was buried in the codices and the main game focused on the battle against the evil archmacguffin with a mess brown palette that occasionally has good locales but hideously ugly character models and messy textures. Dragon Age 2 is a distinctive game focused squarely on the mythology of Thedas and has a distinctive and very attractive art style.

I found out more about the elves and their history just talking with Merrill on one of her quests, than I found out in the entirety of DA:O.

To me, that makes DA2 much more worthy of the IP than DA:O was - and that isn't even saying DA:O was a bad game - because it wasn't. I just strongly disagree that it is the better game.
