So now we're referencing a comment made by a writer in an interview five years ago? This is what we're getting worried and upset about now?

Seriously, folks. I am generally fairly understanding when you guys have concerns, but this feels like you're searching for something to be outraged about.

This. A billion times this!

If it were up to me, no one would be able to skip conversations because by god I didn't crunch 14 hours a day, seven days a week just so someone could not sit and gaze in awe at my hard work!

Did you do the male elf at the Blooming Rose Hawke interviews during the First Sacrifice? I played through it last night. While watching his frequent obscene gestures, I thought of you.

It's true, you don't exist. You are actually a self-sustained, sapient genetic polyp. Or a unicorn.

Please, you're making me blush.

I was going to make some comment about obscene gestures and thinking about Mr. Laidlaw, but my affection and respect for the man are too great and too genuine for me to belittle them so.

Way to end a sentence with a preposition, John. I remember back when BioWare respected old school grammar rules! I guess this is just more of EA's corruption, what with all of their split infinitives and dangling participles strewn throughout their press releases.

For shame!

Actually, *places his teacher's hat gently upon his head*, the rule about ending a sentence with a preposition is not really relevant to the English language. It comes from Latin, due to the different way in which that language structures its sentences.

Or, as Churchill famously said, 'This is the kind of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put.'

At least it's just one or two threads, and not the PR disaster like a certain reviewer on Metacritic who also happened to work for Bioware.

I too made a mental note while playing to commend the devs for that particular elf. Jethann? Very funny.

But I understand why it exists. Just as I understand why some people would want this kind of toggle - personally, it's not something that interests me, but that's mostly because of a gut feeling that I really can't explain properly.

Oh your one of the writers, cool looks like I will have to read more of your posts.

Why did you have a dialouge wheel dont you feel it hurts writing ?
Also why no end game epilouge ? :( Atleast that way I can pretend my choices mattered.

I am not, in fact, a writer, but a cinematic designer.

The other group that is so very, very hurt when you callously skip the dialogues.

Equally if you skip the dialogue you should also be penalised, particularly if you are skipping choices. Whilst *you* should have the choice to, you should still not get something for nothing.

He's not a writer, he's a cinematic designer.

The wheel has nothing to do with writing. It's entirely a GUI construct. It's just a different way of presenting the exact same information. If it presents different information (which, with the paraphrase, it does in DAII), that has nothing to do with the wheel in and of itself.

I haven't finished the game, so I don't know about the epilogues, but my impression is that part of the point of DAII is that none of your choices matter.

I agree with that skipping should only be an option after you finish the game at least once.

I never skip on the first play, well I did skip in the "demo" part because I'd played it 3 times anyway.

I actually enjoy what was done with the cinematics etc. What I hated were the 3 year time skips that put you in situations that you could do nothing about.

It's probably somewhat related to the fact that you play video games. And not just RPG video games or just adventure video games or just action video games. It is a recognition that while differences are important there is a universally bidning congruity in games and that is the presentation of a physical challenge of some sort.

Your motivations and the context of your actions do. "Who is the Champion of Kirkwall?" is a question you answer throughout the game.

I know who my Hawke was. I know why he did what he did, and tried to do what he tried to do. And so, by the end, does Cassandra - who came in with some wildly inaccurate assumptions lemme tell ya.

Ouch, I understand how you feel John. Though I never skip scenes while playing on my first playthoughs, I skip them on my other playthroughs because I remember them clearly. You guys made a wonderful job while doing the scenes in DA2, it would be a lie to tell you the contrary. I'm really glad that you all take time to build these characters and make them live through the game. Although, sometimes I kinda wished there would be more scenes. I have yet to unlock more scenes that I haven't saw in my first playthrough.

I deliberately skipped the conversations in the actual demo so it would feel fresh when I played the full game =]

I would most definitely approve of a skip fight button. Sometimes it just gets boring.

Sure, what I was getting at though (admittedly, this is a conclusion based on a single post of Maria's that I read despite trying really hard to stay out of spoiler forums), was that the idea is that "The world is ****, and your best isn't good enough."

-enabledeveloperconsole on the shortcut
`/~
runscript killallhostiles

Then, to skip any future fights.

`/~
Up arrow
Enter

Already in the game!  And yeah, that's a cheat - not a toggle.  And enabling the console like in DAO seems to stop the client from uploading game data like characters and achievements.  It also sometimes doesn't work, for enemies that trigger a cutscene at a certain percentage of health for instance.

I wouldn't recommend doing it though.  You can go AFK in Casual Mode and still win, and there's 0% chance of it breaking your save.  Well, 0% more than normal anyway.

I think people are desperately searching for a reason as to why Dragon Age 2 exists in the state that it does, and this is giving people something to point to.

Given the absence of any sort of explanation to the contrary, I think people who are already alarmed/angry/disgusted/pissed off/got ripped off for $60.00 will latch onto whatever they can.

Well I havent actually played yet (aside from demo) and looked up info on the internet. But from the one cutscene I saw which I cant specify due to spoilers, it was great.
When I get the game (eventually) I wont skip, atleast not unti like 3rd playthrough where I know what they say.

Did you make the cutscene with the art I cant quite describe, it looks like some old painting (like I said bad at describing) its similar to the loadscrenes and was the first thingyou see in DAO after the chanty quote, showing darkspawn origins (according to chantry anyway). If so I just want to say I reallly like that style and thanks for making it.

I'm curious, has anyone played Donkey Kong Returns on the Wii? Or New Super Mario Bros? Sorry to throw in two games for a system that Dragon Age isn't on, but in both games they feature a "Super Guide" that will play the game for you, and allow you to jump in at a moment's notice to take control and start playing. Otherwise, the character will just go through the level for you.

Would something like that be of interest to players? I'm curious since it technically wouldn't be a button skip, but also wouldn't involve you making tactics and such for multiple playthroughs.

Good article, thanks for linking, even if it was to b*tch and moan. Maker forbid that developers have perspectives on games that aren't exactly like yours.

I'm also bad at the things she says she's bad at, though I wish I wasn't because I love shooters, war movies, and militaristic rah rah. So while I like the combat, there are times when it feels like a grind and I wish I could skip it.

What players? Where are the 'players' in the event that they're sitting there on the sofa watching the AI move their character for them? There's no 'play' involved at all.

The instant you remove the possibility of failure it has ceased to exist as a game and is now just a more expensive movie.

The whole skipping combat in an RPG idea is something that outside of conversation choices, I am a bit baffled at the mere suggestion of.

Immersion goes out the door, eh?
