Reminds me of the Gamespot zelda (twilight princess) 8.9 debacle.

Please chill out and stop ridiculing everybody who has problems with the game. This is the best place to give Bioware feedback, well formed arguments about the games failings are important as well.

I too have felt the frustration of getting my ass handed to me by mindflayers in the underdark,  I disliked the biased spell table for Edwin and have tried valiantly to solo BG2 with just about every horrific build you care to think of. BUT PLEASE BACK OFF AND STOP TROLLING EVERY GUY WHO COMES IN HERE COMPLAINING ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE GAME.

You may disregard problems but Bioware doesn't, Game is too hard? They just patched it to make it easier. DLC is unfair? Storage chest mod from Bioware for camp.

My jaw dropped when I saw people flaming a guy who was asking for a combat log. Its not wow, don't worry your pretty little heads about min-maxing, let him if he wants to.

Ugh, anyway, I write this as a dude who quite likes the game, and wants a combat log :/ (hell its a small request)

It's my experience that this happens every time a new game is released. Rabid mouthbreathers flood a new game's forums for 4 to 6 months and then move on to the next new game.

Take a look at these forums in, say, April or May and I think you'll find these forum will be a much more thoughtful, intelligent and courteous place to post.

Yeah Bioware's forums are friendly compared to a lot of sites devoted to ummm . . . providing a codex of rpg gaming. It has been nastier here lately, but will get better.

I think we grow so used to people who just want to complain for the sake of it, that it's hard to get out of the mindset of "urgh, another complainer" whenever a thread like that comes up.

People do have genuinely good ideas at times though. I would actually quite like a combat log too. It's hard to tell why you're dying sometimes, or which of your characters is the one that's really doing the damage to the enemy.

People need to be constructive with their complaints and requests. People also need to realise that BioWare already know they produced a fantastic game that most people are 100% satisfied with purchasing. They're not going to cry themselves to sleep at night because one person says the graphics aren't up to par. What I'm saying is, they don't need us to jump down peoples throats because they say something remotely 'bad' about a game we love.

Scary thing is that Bioware forums are quite tame and civil compared to the rest of the internet.

I think the general attitude on here is a lot better then other places. The majority of flaming I see on here is other players beating others down for trolling, attitude, and general misinformation. I don't see a lot of fanboism going on, really.

I agree somewhat, but here are some possible explanations just off the top of my head:

1. It's and extremely popular game that has just been released, with a very large fan base .

2. This is a very popular forum, with many people posting here (including the infamous "fanboys" and "trolls"), and distasteful experiences tend to stand out in our memories compared to others.

3. This forum is relatively lightly moderated (for now.)

4. It's the internet ;)

I propose what others have said: wait it out, it will undoubtedly calm down sooner or later.

At least it's not like the Youtube comments areas...

I think a big problem here is that many problems with the actual forum itself (broken search feature, small number of posts displayed, one giant catch-all for 90% of topics instead of multiple boards, very little moderation) have resulted in the same complaint posts coming up over and over and over again, which frustrates a lot of people.

The other thing that seems rampant here (and other places of course) is that people automatically scream TROLL if someone disagrees with them, because an opinion opposite of theirs is obviously wrong and arguing it means you are an idiot.

All of that aside, there are a ton of good conversations here and the majority of people behave well, once they get the kinks in the site worked out (I am assuming that they are working on it...fingers crossed) I think you will see a lot of things smooth out.

If you think people here can get out of hand, go read a forum about a recently released FPS. :)

Once the people who aren't here for the long haul leave, it will be fine.

Check out the NWN community as an example, or the KOTOR community. Once the people who were just there for the fact that they want to rack up another game on the list left, the community became much more friendly and productive.

Yeah, mindless and ignorant responses in all their forms would best be avoided. It seems for every person who rushes to rabidly defend the game, there's another one rushing just as rabidly to condemn it.

Is the game flawless at launch? No, absolutely not (see: dagger damage formula).

Is it worth the (honestly shocking) amount of virulent diatribe that's nerd-raging around these forums? No, absolutely not.

In a perfect world, anyone intending to log on to these forums to either spitefully complain or mindlessly flame those who submit actually reasonable issues in a reasonable way would stop, take a breath, count to ten, and close their browsers.

Sadly, this isn't a perfect world, and bitterness and anonymity tend to combine to produce truly disgusting examples of human behavior.

TLDR: Angry, petty people will always wrap themselves in the blanket of internet anonymity to act like idiots, whether to defend something or condemn it. C'est la guerre.

I'd certainly like to not see it that way. Sadly, my friend, more than a few members of this very site seem to have a different notion altogether. ;)

I can't believe you'd TLDR a seven line post. Alot of the crying on the forums comes down to various levels of "Learn to play" issues, whereby the angry topic creator has no idea what he's talking about and is somewhat very bad at what he's doing. Human nature then dictates that he gets trolled accordingly. Humans do this to others in their face too.

Some genuinely worthwhile discussions are derailed by fanboys from things such as Baldurs Gate (honestly, times change, cry more). Such good discussions are the one which contain pros and cons for giving the gamer the combat log. Another popping up at the moment is whether Direct Healing spells are somewhat misbalanced in response to the target requiring Magic to be able to receive reasonable scaling from the spell or not.

The combat log discussion and request is actually more prevalent and more necessary to the assisting in discussing balance issues, mostly because the maths behind the gameplay which dictates the balance is concealed too heavily. Quite alot of it will be able to be worked out in weeks to come with some trial and error playtesting, but still, this IS the internet after all.

I've not spent anywhere near enough time playing the game to want to go to the spoiler forum. I'll be 'round as soon as I've played through the main campaign at least once.

Save some puppies and cookies for me.

Puppies...mmmmmm.

Edit:

Well, I intended it to be sarcastic (suggesting the average attention-span of a forum troll to be roughly that of an infant goldfish), but I fail at humor.

Also, there's no such thing as being "trolled accordingly". If someone doesn't understand something, why not just explain it to them, with a modicum of patience and an understanding that something that seems obvious to you might not be quite as obvious to someone else? (See what I did there?)

I have to admit I tend to stay away from forums for alot of the games I play because of the bad attitude that tends to be around. Even long standing games.

However, I have yet *searches for some wood to touch* to have any bad reactions to any of my posts on the bioware forums, even if I have disagreed with others, or them with me, its always seemed to have the feel of a lively debate, which is why Bioware forums are the only ones I semi-regularly post on, but always use and refer to when  their playing games, as players here tend to be on the majority mature people, with lots of good ideas and information and never seem to mind when I ask what feel like newb and idiotic questions LOL

Please feel free to take 50% of the posts from here back to the spoilers forum when you return.

yes...I'm never quite sure why people get so invested in other peoples opinions to the point of calling them idiots or morons for having different tastes....

Guess it boosts the virtual ego or something...

You know I'd have an issue with people ridiculing those that have issues if the issues that people had WEREN'T RIDICULOUS NIT PICKY GARBAGE.

Seriously, it's like this game didn't change the life of the player or drop a million dollars into their bank account so they come here and complain.

I've never seen a community of such nit picky whiners. Just today we have people complaining/suggesting that the sex scenes in the game werent sexy enough and that the underwear should be removed. For ****'s ****ing sake. People are retarded.
