I have to admit I tend to stay away from forums for alot of the games I play because of the bad attitude that tends to be around. Even long standing games.

However, I have yet *searches for some wood to touch* to have any bad reactions to any of my posts on the bioware forums, even if I have disagreed with others, or them with me, its always seemed to have the feel of a lively debate, which is why Bioware forums are the only ones I semi-regularly post on, but always use and refer to when  their playing games, as players here tend to be on the majority mature people, with lots of good ideas and information and never seem to mind when I ask what feel like newb and idiotic questions LOL

Yeah, but for a brief while, it was just a few folks very soberly discussing the abysmal level of discourse on these forums.

As community size goes up, intelligent conversation goes down. I think many of the Bioware diehards just aren't used to having 40 gazillion people on their home turf.

People do have genuinely good ideas at times though. I would actually quite like a combat log too. It's hard to tell why you're dying sometimes, or which of your characters is the one that's really doing the damage to the enemy.

People need to be constructive with their complaints and requests. People also need to realise that BioWare already know they produced a fantastic game that most people are 100% satisfied with purchasing. They're not going to cry themselves to sleep at night because one person says the graphics aren't up to par. What I'm saying is, they don't need us to jump down peoples throats because they say something remotely 'bad' about a game we love.

I have to agree here. So many game related forums are so full of bile-spewing idiots who insist that anyone who doesn't hate everything about the game and the developer are boot-licking fanboys, and after a while it becomes hard to identify legitimate criticisms.

I'm not sure which particular ES forum you're referring to but nowadays most of them are pretty civil as far as I'm concerned (not  when the games were released, though).

The Morrowind and Oblivion mods forums are particularly reasonable places nowadays. In fact, it's been my experience that mods forums in general are places where you're likely to find a higher percentage of articulate, helpful people.

I too have felt the frustration of getting my ass handed to me by mindflayers in the underdark,  I disliked the biased spell table for Edwin and have tried valiantly to solo BG2 with just about every horrific build you care to think of. You may disregard problems but Bioware doesn't, Game is too hard? They just patched it to make it easier. DLC is unfair? Storage chest mod from Bioware for camp.

My jaw dropped when I saw people flaming a guy who was asking for a combat log. Its not wow, don't worry your pretty little heads about min-maxing, let him if he wants to.

Ugh, anyway, I write this as a dude who quite likes the game, and wants a combat log :/ (hell its a small request)

You know I'd have an issue with people ridiculing those that have issues if the issues that people had WEREN'T RIDICULOUS NIT PICKY GARBAGE.

Seriously, it's like this game didn't change the life of the player or drop a million dollars into their bank account so they come here and complain.

Over-all, I think the forums are civil enough.



The OP seems to think that people are being jumped upon when they complain. Well... that's called an alternate opinion, isn't it? It can be done in a civil manner or rudely, but I tend to think that people are mostly well behaved.



Personally, I enjoy the game very much. Are there areas that I would do differently? No. I'm not a game designer and would probably make a much worse game!



What irks me about the complainers is that there is a lot of "I don't like this" and "I don't like that" going on. While some of it is positive and may change future games - there is a lot that basically is asking for a different game all together. At some point, the game is what it is. What it is to me is a freaking awesome game that is entertaining to no end.



So, yes. If you complain and I disagree - then I will, if I feel like it, disagree about your disagreeing.



That doesn't make this a bad forum.
