Just curious if anyone noticed differences in DA II if the Hero of Ferelden was a Mage Grey Warden who sought to empower the Circle of Mages in DA:O.

There are differences, but Queen Anora needs to grant the boon because it's bugged if King Alistair grants it. I had it recognized with Queen Anora married to King Alistair (with a hardened personality) and making Loghain a Grey Warden. If First Enchanter Irving thanked you for freeing the Circle from "its shackles" at the royal ceremony, then it was recognized properly.
In DA2, Hawke can mention that the Hero of Ferelden was a mage when speaking to the Grand Cleric. The bartender mentions the Magi boon directly (at the Hanged Man) and you see a confrontation between Knight-Commander Meredith and the ruler of Ferelden where the Magi boon is specifically addressed.
