I'm not looking for compromise, I'm looking to kill everyone on both sides. I want a 3rd option boiling down to killing every mage and templar immediately. We are forced into a supporting one side or another regardless of whether or not we hate both sides.

Wasn't the third way available at the Antivan Crows camp?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Well, to be fair...and accurate....

There was a third way....we could say, "I'm not getting involved"....but like many dialogue options in DA2.....it is simply dismissed and we are forced to do something anyway.

If only. I'm not sure what the writers were trying to do with the mage templar conflict other than make each side as hateable as possible. The faction I'm opposing wants me dead, and the faction I support wants me dead. All of this while each faction is endlessly ****ing about the other. By the end of the game I was ready to burn the city to the ground and head off to Orlais for DA3.

I really didn't want to be involved in that crap... if given the opportunity, I'd have left. Carver always wanted to be a big shot, right? Okay, cool. As my final act as Champion, I'm letting Carver decide. Peace, cya! (runs full speed for the city gates)

And I'd have left all those "friends" behind too!

Since everyone else gets to go bat**** insane, why can't Hawke? Along the lines of: Screw your sides, I'm killing everyone!

Which is basically what you do anyways, you just don't get the opportunity to say it.

I was very disappointed that Icy's option wasn't available.

I believe the quote is:
"A pox on both your houses!"

And then you ride off into the sunset.

Yes, this would force more with seeker v. Varric, and the save game might not be importable, but who cares? I'm supposed to be able to make the choices.

They need to make this an option in some patch or dlc. I will replay every character I have at that point to use it.

Have to fight Orisino-thing and Crazy-dith plus robots at the same time, while they fight each other. Have mages and templars split between being with their leader and being with you. Super fun FFA time.

Riot: you should totally hire me for this idea.

Orsino's crazy needed more building up. Yes, he supported the lily killer, the guy who murdered your mother, but you only get to even think that if you saw the note. Otherwise, he appears to be the saner option of the two. Perhaps not the best choice, but certainly better than Meredith. A few more hints, maybe have one or two of the blood mages mention that they learned what they did at the Circle, even one name-dropping Orsino.

But the point in the game was that the third way did not exist and you needed to pick one side or the other. Both have their good and bad points, and it basically comes down to picking the lesser of two evils. It's not about finding a third way, it's about the ground cracking under your feet and having to pick a side.

Thats one of the things in this story. How damn good mages are at hiding their madness. Grace is a crazy blood mage since the start but hides it so she can extract revenge.
Anders is a crazy Abomination since the start but hides it(Not very well but well enough to avoid templars)
Merril is a one track mind blood mage who is willing to slaughter her whole clan to fix a mirror

I burnt Amaranthine down in an awakenings playthrough  and they gave my Warden less cr*p than Kirkwall  gave Hawke.
I'd like the option to gather all the non-mage non-templar people of the city together united under the "Kill 'em all" banner and just mob them.

"Here mage boy, try casting fireball when there's 200 people thowing cobble stones at you.
You! In the white armor, don't know why you're laughing - you're next."

I'd go with the philosophy of one E. Cartman - Screw you guys, I'm going home!

If you could do it at the start of the final battle there'd be no robots as you're in low town!

They could do a cut scene of orsino and meredith duking it out into hightown then the real fight could start where you normally fight meredith.

also, im pretty sure the scene where orsino pleads with meredith to "resolve this before the city is destroyed" and she'll "only talk to entertain a surrender" happens in the gallows. This is where i want the "kill 'em all" option.

Don't you have to fight your way through lowtown and the dock before getting to the gallows?

I seem to have struck a cord with the "Kill 'em all" motif.  Would like the option to side with the ordinary citizens of Kirkwall and lead a column of peasants to the fight with pitchforks and torches, a la Frankenstein.

EDIT: Frankenstein can work in the sense of Kill the Monster (mages) and it's creator (Templars).

I didnt care about the mages turning into abominations or about Meredith and her glow-in-the-dark sword. I didnt even care about Kirkwell. At this point I would have loved to say "Screw you guys, I'm going home."

Isn't it like you

1- get a letter in the mail that basically says "goto gallows, s#$% is happening"

then

2- arguement between orsino and meredith
3- anders.
4- choose a side
5- deal with anders
6- go through lowtown
7- meet orsino and meredith in gallows again
8- chose side for realreals.
9- combat and bossfights

I have been playing a lot of the game, so its kind of blurred together.

No, the argument when Anders turns up and the Chantry goes bye-bye is in Lowtown. You're on your way to the Gallows, but it happens before you leave for the island.

If you have the Sebastian DLC, you sorta have a 3rd option but you have to take on 1 side in the fight.

Sparing Anders after the bombing makes him go to Starkhaven and bring their army to wipe out Kirkwall.  So there's sorta a 3rd option but we don't see the immediate aftermath.

I still would've preferred a side with a qunari option but oh well

I want to play as a Qunari but i think the Third option should of had you fighting to the Gallows to Retrieve your sibling to flee or something then fighting both not fighting both no matter which option you choose

This doesn't mean there wasn't other third ways.
It's us or the mages.
"Avaline?" Hawke
"Yes?" Avaline
"I am declaring a state of emergancy" Hawke
"What do you intend to do..," Avaline
"Arrest everyone, I will not have this town torn asunder by madmen and bigots." Hawke.

I am simply going to assume that act 4 DLC will save me from my feeling of uselessness.

Riggght Cause hawke has that authority. Even if he did have it the guards would be locking up people who can melt them with their minds and the people whom are trained to fight the folks who can melt people. The city guard would be slaughtered they're not a military force like the templars are.

Two things.
One if Hawke is Viscount then yes, yes he does have that power.
Two if the city guard is not a military force I highly suggest you take a look at riot police or just police in general (Psst there a military organization, you know how there is officers, sergeant and lieutenants)
That and the city guard is the standing army of Kirkwall.
The law and the military were the same people for a great long time.

And why not?!
Do you think that the guard are no good?
Aveline has been drilling them for how long?
Nine years you say?
The fighting force must be useless then.
And nether side recognizes you as a power or threat.
That or they all turned to you and asked ok who's side are you on?

Where was the option to just walk away and let the various lunatics kill each other until they're done?

I mean, really - I couldn't care less about Kirkwall as a whole, nor about the mages (who spent the game trying to kill me, it seems) or Meredith (who I hardly saw and was clearly off her rocker).

"Bela, where's the boat? We're getting out of this nuthouse!!!!"
