Having played through on hard for my first playthrough on a mage, I decided to go for a warrior in my second playthrough, this time on nightmare. However, I have found that the setups of companions I can use are -way- more limited than just 3 guys and a healer and it is quite frustrating to struggle in combat in order to get more enjoyable RPG elements and conversations.

I can point most notably that when you are a 2H warrior, isabella is as good as a liability (even with her relatively strong defenses). The small angle she has to attack without being (outrageously) friendly fired is annoying, and her AI often will put her in dangerous spots to get cleaved - my warrior can one shot her with just a single blow when popping cleave. It makes using pause excessively to keep her in place essential, as hold position is hardly optimal for melee, and slows down the pace of what I would say is a great game. This is partly due to the obscene damage 2H warriors put out, but something ought to be done. But if the cleave done to friendlies could be toned down (at least in terms of warrior auto swings) it would allow us to use the setups we want more. I see no reason why 2H,isabela,merrill/varric and anders should be -much- harder to be successful with than 2h,merril,varric,anders. I went from having Isabella be a mainstay (and indeed the main damage) of my last playthrough to injury kit dump

I am not saying to make nightmare easier, it certainly doesn't need that. If something could be done to allow melee like her to work more with 2H warriors outside of encounters where enemies have large models, that would be awesome.

This seems to be becoming less of an issue now as I play through, although I still find it annoying to have to move isabella far away from anything while I pop CDs like mighty blow. Really could do with like a -50% on the friendly fire for 2H warriors on fellow melee though (don't really mind it against mages and stuff, pretty dumb if they are standing there). As it is I'm steadily making my way through even with the problems, its probably more of a quality of life issue as most harder mobs have large enough hitboxes that its not an issue.
