Oh hey, I thought I'd mention this here because we'd talked about it. AO3 has implemented subscriptions for authors. One step toward a viable alternative ;)

Is that why it was down earlier? Hey, nice! I was all "grr" when I couldn't update Leap and then realized they actually had a status page, explanation, and timetable... and suddenly thought "ah, so this is what websites run by adults are like."

Yep, pretty much. It's really noticeable in the small things that the people running AO3 are also fans and authors and vidders and readers.

Now, I hear from someone a little closer to the team that tag and story subscriptions are on the table and it being something we can expect sooner rather than later.

I debated and decided to start a fic. It's not leaving me alone.

Title: You'll Need to Hear the Whole Story...
Summary: Varric told Cassandra much of the Champions story, but he left out some bits…and didn’t know others. The full story of Garrett Hawke, Apostate and Champion of Kirkwall covers a full decade…not just three years of a decade. M for later chapters. Hawke/Isabela.
Rating: M

I'm a horrible person, writing a happy moment for a charcter whose life I'm about to ruin in my story.

Also, I accidentally set up background for why this Hawke would be suitable for the berserker specilization, which is what she had in-game. O_o

Edit: The chapter I was referring to is up. May the Maker help us all.

I've written a book based in Nevarra, the country next to the Free Marches, but I don't know what to do with it now, so I came to the last bastion of hope for me. Help?

You've written a whole book? Wow, that's awesome! I'd love to have a look if you need readers ^_^

@Quintus: There's always fantiction.net, which is the biggest site by far. You can also go with Archive of Our Own, deviantart, or a livejournal/dreamwidth sort of thing.
I actually wrote a post for People of Thedas not long ago comparing the ffnet alternatives if you want to see a bunch of opinions on them.

Ao3 has been looking better. I am planning on getting my DA II fic up there in the next day or 2 probably.

The site may still be having problems with sending alerts, but don't quote me on that. I rarely get reviews but I seem to get alot of hits. Who knows, maybe they read my stuff and hate it, but they are still reading a story I have not updated since last October. I think people like to be acknowledged, so I try to send a thank you note to those that review and favorite and even throw in an A/N to thank them in public. I recently started publishing to DA and that has been quite inspiring, I love the people over there, so creative. I wish I could draw. lol I will read your stuff and review, if I haven't already.

You really don't have to review if you don't want to.  I was more curious in general terms what you're supposed to do.  I'm not a big social networker, so I'm not that good at the thank-you noting, and whatnot.  Plus, it just kind of feels weird.  Just started posting to DeviantArt, but damn, if they don't have the most unintuitive and annoying interface!  It's taking me close to an hour to reformat even the simplest, shortest fics there.  I was half-tempted to upload some of my longer ME stuff, but italicizing and bolding and spacing has given me carpal tunnel for the six things I have up there.

I guess I get hits, but I really haven't paid much attention to them.  The alerts are my heroin   And, thankfully, the system barfed up four days' worth yesterday.  So, woo hoo!

Not to be retentive, but can you reformat this like the ones in the OP?  I don't really have the time or the capability to fix everyone's so they're uniform.

We may wish to consider making the fanfic links index a separate post (that will hopefully be stickied) or else fics might get lost in the bustle of conversation.

If you upload a story to fanfiction.net, once you have it how you want it, you can hit the html button in the corner of the UI. It throws up a box with your story in html. Then you can go to Deviant Art, click the "Add Text" button and just copy the html from ff.net into that box and...voilà! A perfectly formatted story.

New Divide
Author: tallon617
Length and Status: Long, WIP
Explicit Content: Y (language, violence and other mature themes lol)
Story Elements: Adventure
Synopsis: Selene Hawke is following the trail left behind by her cousin the
Champion of Kirkwall during the aftermath of freeing the mages. With
Varric's help the search for Hawke and the others begins.

It's sort of a screwy story but it's been fun to write lmao

I have a lore question about teh templars. I thought that templars took vows of chastity, but it seems like they don't in DA II.

I know that they don't take them very seriously, espescially when it comes to all those female mages they feel so free to take advantage of, However, Ser Wesley was married to Aveline, and Ser Thrask had a daughter. So did they decide to removfe the whole chastity thing? Or are they just supposed to be chaste unless they get married? I certainly don't think Carver would survive :P

Any ideas?

They have vows of chastity, but not celibacy, I believe was Word of God. So, sex in marriage? OK. Outside of it? No way.
But, they have to be 100% devoted to the order, so few get married. They don't get paid enough to support a family, so their wife would need to have another means to take care of herself and any children. And if they're told "you're being stationed in the Tower" they have to go and leave their family behind. Like being married to someone on active duty, they can be re-stationed at any time... only templars do it without the pay, family housing, and even a modicum of understanding.

Thrask's daughter might not have been legitimate, either. Was it ever said? My first thought, when it turned out his child was a mage, was that he had probably been the child of a mage given to the Chantry (like Wynne's son), and magic ran in his line. Never supported in game, bu it made sense to me.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.  It's a lot like the requirements are supposed to be for Pastors in most christian denominations.  Fidelity in marriage and chastity outside of it.  Thanks for helping to clear that up for me.

All for this, fics are jostling with mods at the moment...

We could do that, or people could just PM me their stuff.  But both threads will possibly get lost in all the mod threads that pop up.

Up to y'all.

Whatever you do, I'd request a sticky for the fic listing, like they have for the mod lists. I can't imagine they'd say no.
