We know what the red scarf symbolizes, but what's tied UNDER it? There's definitely something there, but it's impossible to tell what it is and he never mentions it.

It could be an armor strap. I wonder if it's a memento of his bonds in Tevinter- which would make it more significant that he's freely chosen who he fights for now.

As for the thing under the scarf... well...  it reminds me of Legion taking a piece from Shepard's old armor. I always thought that was so cute. <3

I think Fenris stole a ribbon from Hawke's armor and placed it under the red scarf. That's my take and I'm sticking to it.

That red ribbon thing on Fenris reminded me of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - characters from FFVII wore those same red ribbons in that movie. There were other reasons for them to wear it, but still Fenris is similar to Cloud in my book, as he sure does fall into "broody, spiky haired guy" category that weeaboos love. I'm certain there was some influence, I just hope that Bioware won't start making their games as ****ty as JRPGs.

Btw, Isabela has a red ribbon too if you romance her. Although her new costume is bugged and won't show up until you respec her with Maker's Sigh from Black Emporium.
