Ok, so building my mage Hawke as Spirit Healer and Force Mage. Looking at the stats on items (+2 health regeneration etc.) I thought Healing Aura's +100 health regen would make keeping my group alive a breeze! But it seems to do absolutely nothing (or at least completely negligible amounts of health restoration).

I group up my allies around Hawke and they all have the "Healing Aura" symbol, but nothing seems to happen.  So either there's a bug or i don't understand what +100 health regen is supposed to mean.

I assumed that it increases my health by 100 every tick (however long that is). But that MUST be wrong. My allies all have less than 250 health and there's no single increases of 50% of their health throughout even a long fight.

So I have two other guesses:
1. Healing Aura increases how much your outgoing heals do by +100 or
2. There is a cap on health regeneration that is way below the buff provided by healing aura.

If I'm wrong, can someone please explain what +100 health regen means???

No. It doesn't say +100%. It says:
Health regeneration rate: +100 for all party members

I don't even know what the health regeneration rate IS. Is it X hp per 1 second? or X hp per 3/4/etc. seconds? or is it + X hp restored with Heal/Group Heal?

you could get a char hurt then kite them around and keep pausing and checking the hp number

its about 1.2 % of HP regen a second, you have to be in range though. It has a very small radius, about 4 body lengths.

IS it even 4 body lengths? It is given as 6 meters or something isnt it? You need to actually be in melee range basically.

That +100 hp regen from player mage spirit healer tree is godly.

For the first non upgraded Healing Aura, if you line your group up, Hawke should have everyone basicly shoulder to shoulder with the space for about 1 maybe 1.5 more people left over between him and the closest party member.  Basicly you're barely in Whirlwind range if the 2h warrior is on the end.

It's +100%. The tooltip is wrong. Basically doubles your health regen. I'm not sure what the natural health regen is, it might vary by difficulty. Great thing to have if you have three ranged damage-dealers that always stick together, but don't try to pair it with rock armor and use it to benefit your tank. That will only end in tears.

I think it was designed to be a passive healing measure for Aveline and maybe a melee rogue. With a larger range it would be too powerful. As it is now, you can jsut pause game and send anders over to stand behind avaline and she won't die.

This did not work for me.  I tried to buff Anders defense and armor enough that he could stand in melee with the tank, but it's just not viable.  This was on Hard/Nightmare, maybe it works alright on Normal.

I would put him behind Aveline, not in melee.

That's still close enough to get hit by most boss AoEs....

it kinda sux in the end, when i was using it, i just moved my ranged characters together... if they didn't take any damage for a bit, it was helpful, beyond that.... it sux

You cant move him during that time? Only boss AoE i know that would cause any issue are generally telegraphed so you move everyone in melee range out. With the radius of this spell, that is about the space of 2 characters.

It's a matter of convenience vs efficiency. Having the aura on my tank wasn't beneficial enough to justify bothering with microing Anders out of the death zone.

As much as I agree with that, I never bother with the spell or tree myself at the moment, it's not what is being discussed here.

Fair enough, but I answered the OP's question in my first post so I thought we might as well continue discussing the merits of the talent. If someone wants to start a new thread for that, be my guest.
