Ok so i'm hating the robes my mage is rocking at the minute,

Anyone know what the best robes are in the game and where to find them?
Also in regards to uniqueness and looks, i'm in act II and would rather get on with the quests that provide the best stuff so my mage isn't trundling around in 'er 'orrible stuff for any longer than needed.

Pic's would be much appreciated too!

I hated wearing a dress so I went with the Robe of the Notorious Pirate. They're not the best robes in the game but short of the Champions robes they were the best looking to me. You loot them off of Fell Orden during the Raiders on the Coast quest I believe.

Robe of Unblemished Cleanliness for me. My Hawke loves dressing up like a Chantry sister while in fact she's a blood-sucking, lightning spouting Blood Mage. >:-)

Robes of the Champion are solid stat-wise and just look amazing. The Black Emporium has, in Act 3, what I would call the 'best' robes in the game, in that they have high +% to multiple element damages - although I couldn't afford them during my first mage playthrough on Normal.

As an aside, does anyone know if the 'set-bonus' for armour sets is displayed anywhere? Sets like: Spiral Eye, The Overseer and the Champion - I have equipped each piece, but couldn't instantly see a benefit (although admittedly I didn't study the stats that hard).

Open the abilities page.  If you have a set bonus active, the icon appears next to your dog.

It's in your abilities tab, next to the mabari hound icon.

EDIT: I've been ninja'd.  I feel so violated.

I had the same problem with my mage here... I hate the robes(exept the champion robes), so I put points into Dex and Cunning and put on low level Leather Armor all the way through to act 3... Wasn't any problems if you just avoid getting hit and you look cool all the way through the game.. Granted, you do a little less damage, but that shouldn't be a bother =)

There is a bug with Set Bonuses a well, just like there is a bug with Isabella and Sebastian's Friendship Bonus.  Sometimes after the effect is suppose to be taken off it gets stuck.  Thus the bonuses have already subtracted from your character, but the icon stayed.  Next time you apply the bonus (e.g. wear the set) it will try to add the bonuses, and see that the ability is already there and thus adding nothing.  When you take off the set again, it will instead remove the bonus (which it never added), and again the icon is stuck - rince and repeat for horrific results.

This seems rarer than the Companion but, but there have been reports of it.  So be vigilant for it.

.. Robes ****** me off in this game.. My male mage went from looking cool with the starters robes.. Some one that actually LOOKS like the person in the DA2 Trailer.. To a stereotypical mage.. I mean damnit man, I was teased that mages would actually look cool in wearing armor.. Not wearing a dress..

Uhh.... Mages have always and will always wear robes in almost every game. The exception was the Arcane Warrior in DA:O but even then, I felt that the concept around that design was a little off. No mage should be able to wear armor. Bottom line.

The games Hawke is a blood mage whose wearing armor or at very least something that isn't robes..  The majority of the staves in the game are part melee weapons in looks.. Something Hawke in the trailer uses against the Arishok even though he is in fact a mage.  One would expect that there would be a varience in customes instead of 1 amazing looking armor (champions) and the rest looking god awful stereotypical dresses..  Hawke is shown as quite a physical mage who knows some melee combat..  Heaven forbid they deviate from that role when the standard Hawke that is advertised is meant to be that..  I would have been fine if the robes looked far more practical for combat (ala Assassin's Creed)..  I don't expect to be wearing metal, I just would have liked to see something actually practical looking..

The robes are awful and I've by passed some because I just can't stand them. I stuck with the Robe of the Notorious Pirate until they were just so obviously obsolete I couldn't sustain them.

Kind of a silly question, the best armor in the game is pretty much always the Champion armor.

The exception being if you're rocking blood mage and find items to bolster that, in which case those items would be preferable.

A sexy pirate "robe" to be sure.

I also put Notorious Pirate ahead of Champion robe because of the metal...thing...that juts out from the latter one's collar.

No one ever does seem to get long robes to look right on human male characters.

I just hope there is a dedicated modder out there that is willing to go through the time and effort in redoing the robes, the majority of them look god awful..  Which is such a buzz kill when the main trailer of the game has default Hawke (mage hawke) wearing something that looks far cooler and more practical than a large dress..

The robes look horrible, something like Anders' would do, but they're not even that... The Champion robes are too warrior-esque, I agree, something in between would be very good.
