Duncan - Merrill talks about him in party banter.
Shale - Bartender in the Hanged Man talks about the pigeon population when asked about "any news?".
Sten - I think he is mentioned in party banter.Someone talks about a "Qunari killing people."( I may be wrong but I thought I heard someone talk about a Qunari near Lothering or in Lothering.)

Sketch and Bonny Lem from Leliana's Tale. Sketch is in a side quest "sketchy on the details" in act 2, Bonny Lem is a merchant in the disused passage on the docks.
If you sided with the werewolves in Origins, you also get a little quest where a dalish assassin is going to murder a former werewolf. She mentions that her mother was Danyla, the werewolf woman you had the option of mercy killing in origins, and the man mentions that they were all victims of Zathrian, the keeper in the same quest in Origins.

Bethany does mention her best friend being killed by a Qunari when you get near their compound. Obvious Sten reff.
