I can see why some people get bored, but not why they didn't also get bored in DAO. Everything "boring" about DA2 existed in DAO to an extent; sometimes to a lesser extent, such as with recycled maps, and sometimes to a greater extent, such as with side quests.
Perhaps because there were different areas, and the sidequests were more varied, not just "Go there and kill those guys".
In DA2 we're stuck in Kirkwall almost all of the time.

DA had very succesfull graphics and epic feeling in areas. Combat was boring but not at all as quicly as in DA2. So excellent graphics + free roam maps beat the hell out of DA2 arcade side scroller.
Edit: And combat in DA was not nerve pissing ridiculous.

Fix the bugs.
Finish the game.
Listen to the community. Oh god, please listen to it.
If you do that you MIGHT be considered the king of immersive RPGs again.

Winner? With so many other big titles due to be released, Diablo 3, ME3, TOR, Skyrim etc, it'll have a tough fight on its hands.

It MAY be nominated for RPG of the year if VERY lucky.
It will for sure win a LOT of "DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE YEAR" awards.

Is this thread a joke? Has the op even played it yet? Mass Effect 3 definitely won't if it goes the same course as DA2, and comparing the development timeframe of the two it looks like it's going the same course as DA2.

The Mass Effect 2- Mass Effect 3 release dates are planned to be on par with the Mass Effect 1 - Mass Effect 2 release dates. Just short of 2 years inbetween games.

DA2 wasn't a bad game at all, but the overuse of game maps and the overused wave combat make it clearly a decently made rushed sequel.......not a game of the year.
I think they did a good job for such a short dev cycle, but I do not think there is a *Best Rushed Game Category*.
Now I will eat my words from pre-release time. I did end up liking the faster combat, they deserve kudos for the most improved combat. Problem is, they dropped the ball with the combat and coincided those improvement with the really annoying "wave combat cranked up to 11" in every encounter.
If Bioware gets game of the year for this, I will be finally be a aluminum foil hat wearing conspiracy believer in every revew is paid.

ME1 > ME2 was 2 years. In fact it was 2 months over a year since ME1 was released November. ME3 is supposedly going to be released November of this year. ME2 came out January of last year. It will be under two years if that release date is somewhat reliable. If not, then good. Hopefully they take their time with it instead of rushing it like DA2. And ME2 wasn't exactly a high quality production. ME1 took much longer than 2 years to make and it was a much better than the second. Games aren't done well when rushed. This is evident of ME2, and extremely obvious in DA2.

ME2 wasn't a high quality production? I can understand you liking ME1 more even if I don't agree, but to say ME2 wasn't a high quality production pits you against every composite critic and player review score I've seen. ME1 was a fantastic game and ME2 took what the first game did and did it even better. ME1 to ME2 took roughly 26 months, and ME2 - ME3 is on track for around 21-23 if they make the release date. DA1 to DA2 was just a few days over 16 months and they changed quite a bit form the first to the second. I don't want to see them rush this game any more than you do but a 22 month time frame seems rather reasonable, especially if they stick to what made ME2 so popular and I haven't seen any indication they plan to take the DA2 route of alienating the fanbase for ME3.

The other TES games weren't really class-based, either. They just gave you some pre-made builds from which to choose. That you could customise and build your own showed that they were skill-based RPGs, not class-based RPGs.Elton John is dead wrote...
Skyrim? Yes, it'll take GOTY on some sites but come on, they've taken the classes out of that game. If you thought DA2 was not an RPG and think Skyrim is, you're mistaken.Combat will be terrible as well like with all of Bethesda's games.
I'll agree that Bethesda's combat is terrible. Only Fallout 3 was any good at all (though I remember enjoying Arena).
I didn't have any problem with the combat in Oblivion and thought it was a huge improvement over Morrowind combat. Attributes such as speed, agility and strength seem to be more important as well as the reach of your weapon.
The problem I think is that most people just use one basic tactic - run up to the enemy and mash the attack button (Ithat's what I did in my first playthrough, but that only works to a point). If you do that for the whole game, then yeah, combat is going to be very boring.
If you mix in more varied tactics such as sneak attacks, enchanted weapons, custom spells, summoning creatures, command creature/humanoid spells it becomes a lot more fun.

That's a lot of big games, which will more likely be candidates/nominees for goty.
this and even if these big games did not come out it would still not stand a chance.

ME2 lacked in the story department. Significantly. The plot wasn't as good as the first one, and the levels were extremely linear. Specifically the hub worlds. So many quests where you would talk to someone, and then resolve it with another in the same room, or right down the hallway. The level design suffered just as DA2's. Yeah, they didn't recycle the environments like in ME1, but they made them extremely small. There wasn't a vast sense of exploration as in ME1. But lets not take this off topic. We can agree to disagree.

No.
Don't get me wrong, the game is good and i had fun with it. But it has too many shortcomings to be GOTY materials.
Especially with Skyrim, Deus ex, and Diablo 3 coming out this year too. I doubt ME3 will make it into this list either, since it can easily be crippled by the the same design/business philosophy that prevented DA2 from achieving excellency. Even if dear Bioware would admit that they made huge mistakes in DA2 (which they aren't at all), and would agree to change their approach, I don't think there is enough time left to get ME3 on the right track if it has already gone the way of the click-awesome and copy&paste.
