This game will never be NOMINATED for GOTY.

It MAY be nominated for RPG of the year if VERY lucky.

It will for sure win a LOT of "DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE YEAR" awards.

Real critics are not delusional RPG fans.

I just want to get a read on the anti-DAII folks(if they are like me)

My only fault with the game is the re-used maps and the wave combat.

I didn't really care about any of the characters other than Varric, but they were well represented.

I also though the skill trees were good, and the combat while a lot faster was fun.

Mostly though, the single most and mostly only reason I think this game deserves a 5 of 10 is the wave combat. I hated it that much. It ruined the rest of the game, and I can barely fire up the game to slog through the act 2 waves and finish the game, even though I have been told if I skip sidequests, I am only a few hours from the end.

lol @ the idea that Skyrim won't be a real RPG.

Well if it's anything like Oblivion, it'll just be a sandbox action/adventure game with a few RPG elements.

If ME3 comes out this year, def not, and Skyrim is looking pretty great. Its a strong year of contenders

if DA 2 gets GOTY it was clearly paid out by EA to troll every single RPG fan

seriously, we are getting The witcher 2, skyrim, Mass Effect 3, and I think even Risen 2

heck, just Deus Ex: human revolution alone will kick the bejeezus out of DA 2

I agree, but you forgot the lack of choice-consequences. Often the same thing would happen, or even you would get the same answer no matter the dialogue or action you choose.

My hate list in order :

1) Illusion of choice, making this more of a click through adventure game than a real deep RPG like DA
2) Enemies spawning from the fade right into your face, even if teleportation is impossible according to a codex
3) Lack of environment variety, copy&paste, and general lazy art and level design. Have you seen how desolate the dalish camp looks? and did you wonder why you are fighting PIRATES in the chantry? wow.

No. Why?

Mass Effect 3
Skyrim
Uncharted 3
Deus Ex 3
LA Noire
Witcher 2?
Shogun 2?
Battlefield 3?

That's a lot of big games, which will more likely be candidates/nominees for goty.

Plus Batman: Arkham City.  The Last Guardian, if it gets out in time. Portal 2. Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 might be a contender, maybe Mortal Kombat depending on how it turns out. Plus who-knows how many other games we haven't thought of.

Yeah, there's a lot of serious competition this year.

DA2 simply isn't polished enough. There's a gem buried underneath all the grime, but there's so many problems with it that it's hard to say "well it's just your opinion". IYeah, I'm more than willing to grant that people like the game more than I do, and that's fine, but the flaws within it are too obvious for it to be a serious contender.

Which really really saddens me. I never thought I'd see the dady where a Bioware game wouldn't easily be considered a GOTY contender, or at least a "Best game on _______ system" .

Man...I just thought of something. A sickening thought. Can't you just see this headline or this chant from fanboys....

"Gears of War 3 wins Game of the Year! Gears of War 3 wins Game of the Year!"

*shudders*

Definitely not. I loved DA:O and had high hopes for DA2 but tbh I find it to be mediocre. Its okay, but not goty material. You all seem to be forgetting Diablo 3 is coming out this year (probably lol). If it does that's my guess for goty.

Ask me after Human Revolution, ME3 and The Witcher 2 come out, since it is a little early to be talking GOTY here when the other three games I'm really looking forward to aren't even out yet.

Compared to all the other games coming out? Unless the ten or so games I have in mind turn out to be less than stellar, I somehow doubt DA2 can compete.

This is coming from a guy who has been raving and defending DA2 all over the place on other forums.

Hate to say it... but DA2 will likely be crushed this year by the competition.

If Deus Ex is anything like its predecessor, I doubt even Elder Scrolls V has a chance. I'm praying that Human Revolution does follow the original.

Click-through subpar arcade adventure is a good definition.

I by the way have wondered in Kirkwall how evilies dare to roam in the streets since I have slaughtered tons of bandits. I also wonder how I could get away so easily from Chantry after I slaughtered maybe 10 regular templars and one boss templar. Next day I chatted with templars in High Town like nothing would had happened.

In BG guards went hostile at me and I had to run and sneak in the city. In DA2, huh *facepalm* no words to describe how ridiculous and unimmersive the world is.

But I have seen this game has managed to attract CoD audience, which was the plan. So the world is working as intended, heh. I have also seen many people should had been playing CoD or WoW in the first place.

Edit: I think my momma would be able to tell me more immersive stories than BW in year 2011.

No.

We are going to get:
-Deus Ex: Human Revolution (I'm looking forward to this baby more than anything )
-Portal 2
-Mass Effect 3
-Dark Souls
-Skyrim
-Uncharted 3
-Duke Nukem Forever (Hail to the king baby!)
-The Last Guardian (should be a late 2011 release from what I read)
-LA Noire
and plenty other games

There's no way a mediocre RPG like DA2 can make even a runner up to GOTY.

If you are talking about RPG GOTY, I am not sure if DA2 should be on the contender list.. but that is still to be seen. From what I have seen, Witcher 2, Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim looks like it will be better than DA2.

there are a lot of great games coming out even for pc so it will be tough and though i love DA2 i think La noire may win just because from what ive seen it is push the envelope story wise with the best face emotions ever seen for this crime epic but i m looking forward to ME3 and any DA2 Dlc.

Deus Ex, Battlefield 3, Portal 2 or (hopefully) ME3 will be GOTY.

DA2 is not goty material, as sad as I am saying it.

Nope. Not by a longshot. As much as I enjoyed playing DA2, it has no chance for 2011 GOTY.

I can't imagine it would be game of the year unless it was just a list of a very rabid Bioware fan/employee. I'm not trashing DA 2, it's an okay game but it feels so limited compared to DA:O that I just can't seem to get excited about it. Most people I know and legitimately trust the opinions of seem to draw up similar conclusions. DA 2 does nothing new that DA:O and ME 2 hasn't already done outside of the framed narrative thing. If I want a framed narrative, I'll watch The Usual Suspects or one of my other DVDs.
