Not for me. If any class it was the mage that didn't feel epic (boring on lower levels and meh on higher). The warrior and rogue are awesome, especially with the action combat. I recently finished a dual wield rogue playthrough, he cleaved through enemies like no one's business.

Actually imho, the idea that it is not the powerful mage or strong warrior, but the unseemly rogue that sets the course of history for dragon age seem pretty epic to me.
So far, all my main playthroughs involve rogues...

There's a certain visceral satisfaction to chunking ogres that words cannot describe.

I'm sure you could do it with a warrior and mage as well but I'll always remember my first time was as a rogue....

My first playthrough was as a rogue, too, and it was a blast! I do enjoy the challenge of rethinking my play style for my current mage, but after this playthrough, I'm definitely going back and playing another rogue (warriors bore me).

Wait, why aren't my enemies showing little numbers when I stab them?! Do I have to change something in the settings, or am I just going blind?!

Rogue Hawke becomes the most OP late game IMO, you just sorta waltz in somewhere and Assassinate-Vendetta-Twin Fangs stuff...

Full DW.
Full Assassin.
Full Shadow.
Get Duelist Vendetta upgrade.
(can't remember if I took some points in Scoundrel or specced out of it)

Either way, with gear and good runes, party buffs and 70 CUN, you're deceptively durable, and you dish out so much single target DPS it's not even funny.

I might be biased, I play Rogue-first in every game, but the skills trees were nicely done and I loved my Rogue Hawke (played Rogue twice, Hard + NM).

Rogue appears to deliver more then mage, actually found the mage to have limited (or uninteresting) build paths, that are a little underwhelming, compared to the rogue or even warrior. Will try another mage build... but honestly playing pure CC/support as opposed to the lack lustre AOE specialist is flat out boring (hated the blood mage skill tree in DA:O and DA2 isn't any better). mage has lost a lot of versatility and I think Rogue is a much better option now.

The reality is that a rogue Hawke >> the rogue companions because of the ridiculousness of the Assassinate tree.

The non-rogue compaions all have pretty good character specific talent trees which compare well with anything Hawke could get as a warrior/mage.

Rogue Hawke = underpowered early, way overpowered mid-late game.

Mage Hawke feels more like a controller than an epic damage dealer to me.

On a theoretical level. Sure. A warrior or a mage just has that instant authority and epicness by virtue of class name and what it implies alone. But on a practical level? Why don't you try a rogue and see how that works out for you. A 2h trashmob dominating Vanguard warrior may seem big and mighty, a Gravitic + Firestorm + Pull + Virulent Bomb mage might seem Godly. But the everyday use of a frigging überninja that can teleport across the battlefield and reduce those pesky rogues, mages and elites into blood showers faster than your own eye can see... now that's something truly remarkable.

Perhaps the best way to emphasize the difference is the beginning of the Arishok duel, when he sends 4 of his royal guard against Hawke's party. Now granted, they weren't meant to be strong. Regardless, the epic value of my Hawke rose to new proportions when there in the eyes of the public and Arishok himself, my Hawke slaughtered all 4 on her own, starting on the opposite sides of the room, before the rest of the party could barely raise their weapons. All they saw was a puff of smoke and guts and pieces flying all over the place.

So no, a rogueHawke does *not* feel less epic. Their strength is far less obvious, but where blunt 1 vs 1 solo power is concerned, a rogueHawke can easily make a warriorHawke or a mageHawke look like a sad slow-motion joke.

I see Hawke as a mage, and while I never play mages in RPGs... my first playthrough of DA2 was a mage and it was a blast. The Destiny trailer won me over, and seeing that the mage actually played like that was just great.

The Warrior is still my first pick - personal preference. But the Rogue is a ton of fun to play. Very tactical.

Rogue has been my favorite class to play through in both DA:O and DA2.....it's a harder build to get 'right' compared to a warrior or a mage.

I turned off visible damage numbahs. (Insert definition #837 of the word "immersion" here.)

As for use of the term "epic", allow me to retort:

Stabstabstabstab, slash, bamf, STAB, zooom, stabslashstab, backflipstab, flyyyyyyy, ka-slash, stabstabstabstab, bamfslash, bamfstab, zip, zoom, STABBITY STAB.

Any questions?

first playthrough was on normal as a rogue, i hated it...
second playthrough on hard as warrior, light-years beyond rogue in terms of fun.

rogue hawke is like a little wuss version, all sneaky and whining and smartmouthed. warrior hawke is powerful, charismatic, a true leader... what is a city more likely to rally around, would you think?

Rogue Hawke feels a lot less epic than Warrior Hawke on Nightmare, where an errant archer can swat him clear across the battlefield with little more than a flick of the wrist.

I miss my rogue "Hawke" from DA:O --- dagger & shield style. Untouchable in melee.

warrior hawke is easily the most boring class. Mage and Rogue are 10x more fun than warrior hawke

How so? Getting knocked on your ass and getting interrupted is fun? Warrior Hawke is a badass who destroys things in close combat. No sneaking around like a coward or casting pansy spells. Just rush in and carve everyone up with your 2H weapon

I gotta say that Mage and Rogue are by far my fav class' to play, I was kind of dissapointed with the Warrior class to be perfectly honest.

Get an anti-knockback ring, and suddenly rogue hawke goes for fragile namby pamby, to God on wheels.  My first playthrough, not knowing what I was doing, the knockback was driving me insane, but once that was fixed, joy again.

It all depends what you want. The most obviously powerful class are 2h warriors, but their single target damage pales in comparison to rogues. And by act 3, I had fights (on hard) where there were 3 assassins and they were all dead less than 10 seconds into the fight. That and spalltering mages for fun and profit. Team with a mage (with brittle) and have a warrior do some staggering, and nothing but a boss survives more than one special move.

And while most folks don't like duelist, you can crank your defense through the roof, combined with anti-knockback, you can easily go toe-to-toe with most mobs.

I've tried 2H warrior, mage, and DW rogue... I just can't get into rogue, but I did take shadow as my first spec, so maybe that's why. I doubt I'll even get to level 14 though because it's just not as much fun as warrior. Mage is the first class I tried, and it was fun until I tried 2H warrior. There's really no comparison.

I don't get knocked on my ass. Perhaps you should start tanking with your tank instead of your rogue or mage? :)

Personally I find that mages and rogues require a lot of personal control, they're gimmicky and tactical, and used right can produce a whole lot of wondrous situations a warrior is completely incapable of. The warrior on the other hand suffers from the same problem as they do in any other game: they are simple, easy to control, predictable and restricted. Yes, they are extremely powerful, but hardly challenging or interesting. This is - of course - just a matter of opinion.

I've played DA2 through 2.5 times with a mage, once with a rogue, and tried twice with a warrior but I just get bored so fast I can't do it. I'm trying real hard to get into my current warrior playthrough. But the whole "Cleave + spam attack + Might - Scythe - Whirlwind" gets real old real fast. It gets some pretty stills though with 10 mobs dying and spreading blood all over the place. Reminds me of the Manga Berserk.
