Anyone with an area stagger saves me more often than I'd care to admit. Jacob and Zaeed come to mind.

Garrus & Thane with Mantis rifles can clear a room disturbingly fast. Makes me wonder if I should try bringing other teammates more often...nah.

Hmm... this topic made me interested in doing a run where Shepard doesn't use any talents or weapons at all and leave all the actual fighting to the squadmates. That way one would really get to know which squad mates really are the most useful.

Anyone that can do a stagger [or even better Stasis] helps out my Vanguard. Besides that I mostly pick my squad off the floor after fights.

Anybody with a sniper rifle. Place them in the back and I strip shields/barriers with Miranda. Sniper (Garrus/Thane) cleans up the rest.

Mordin with maxed incinerate coupled with my infiltrator's incinerate saved my bacon more than a few times.

I love Grunt, but he doesn't work with all playstyles. He's still tough though, hard to knock down unless it's a scion I've found.

Kasumi with quick shadowstrike is nasty. Strip shields, send in kasumi and she kills it while you strip shields of something else. She's also saved my bacon a number of times with shadow strike knocking down geth primes and destroyers that got up on me
