how in the hell do people keep missing that?
Because the oldest builds are at the top of the OP. People visit the thread looking for the builds, find those and don't realise there are updated builds later in the post. The note in red at the top says the guide is "updated" and they should check the bottom, but unless you were already familiar with the thread (or you properly read the entire post instead of just skimming it for the builds, duh) it isn't obvious that the early build info is not actually "updated", but instead superseded by what comes later.
My suggestion, any combination of the following:
Move the newer, more relevant info to earlier in the post (duh), out-of-date info later, yay cut'n'paste.
Put a note at the start of the original Level-Up Guide bit explicitly mentioning that it is for 1.01 or earlier and if you have 1.02(1.03), scroll down further
Big Red Text at the top of the OP telling people to scrooooooll doooooooown
Do nothing except continue to mock people as they make this mistake over and over again
*shrug*

lol telling people to read a thread they clicked on is slightly insulting to the reader. If they do not take the time to read it, it is their loss. Don't coddle them Are.
It's their own fault for not reading it fully. Obviously... but people are often either stupid or just lazy, the fact that it is obvious to everyone (except them) doesn't change a thing.
If you want people to make that particular mistake less often, there are ways you could change the layout of the post that would discourage them from making it.
If you couldn't really give a toss, were only asking why people made that particular mistake rhetorically, and you really couldn't be arsed to do anything about it even if you did give a toss... well, that was why I included the last "option" in my previous post.
I don't care at all - I'm fine with the post as it is, but you asked why people kept making that mistake. "It's because they're stupid" seemed a not very worthwhile thing to say because that much is obvious, but I thought maybe you didn't realise that the layout of the post was encouraging that sort of stupidity. Well - maybe not quite encouraging, but certainly it makes it really really easy for someone already inclined towards laziness (or stupidity) to fall into that trap. Why'd you think every 5th post is from someone using the wrong build or tactics?
Like I said first time, *shrug*.

look at these guides. i have done all of your ****ing work for you, i do everything but come to your house and play the game for you myself. all you need to do is READ IT. if you can't do that, or can't be bothered to do that, do not waste my time. if you've read and tried and you're still having issues, or you don't understand something, by all means, ask me. i'm happy to help. if you want even MORE shortcuts, bother someone else.
5 months of dealing with the lazy and selfish and people who only hold their hands out for more after i give hours and hours of my time that i don't HAVE to has got me a just a liiiittle bit annoyed.

the information is there. it's not hidden from you, kept from you, or made difficult for you in any way, shape or form. if you are too lazy or inept to take the 20 seconds TOPS you'd need to get to the information, you're not worth my time.

Changing the OP might be an acceptable approach if it wasn't laid out clearly. It is. Catering to the completely inept is pandering to stupidity and the thoughtlessness of this generation. Willful acceptance of the pathetic habits of people only goes to further them throughout the population. If anything we should induce a cypher and force them to decrypt the guide in order to make use of its information.
I don't entirely disagree with you, SB, but my main concern was really for AreleX who has very obviously got seriously burned out since way back when the ME2 guide was posted.
I was just saying that there might be one or two tiny editorial changes that could be made to alter the flow of the guide, and those changes might possibly go some small way to reducing the incidence of this one particular type of idiotic complaint that crops up often enough and is annoying enough that AreleX mentioned it. I only posted because I thought it might help reduce the amount of rubbish AreleX has to wade through....
All it really boils down to is whether making those sorts of changes would be more or less annoying than dealing with the repetition of that particular error.

i can't even tell if you're being serious. to you, it's a joke. to me, it's 10-20 pm's in my inbox every day, and countless posts in my threads.
Nah, I was just being sarcastic. I understand you being fed up with this sh!t. I would be too. I'm sure there's a lot of us here that appreciate the time and work that some of you guys put in for the cummunity. I know that without the likes of you and SuicidalBaby, I would still be struggling with the game and some of it's mechanics (wich are never properly explained within the game, if at all). Like I said there's a lot of us that appreciate your work, but some people are just...well, lazy and/or dumb. I guess some just want to get those builds and tactics setups, and don't even want to understand why things are working the way they are. So, they skip the 3/4 of the guide and then complain about how the guide should have been, so they wouldn't miss/overlook something. And that's your typical modern casual gamer mentality....and the internet. It's frustrating, I know.

*sigh* fine, mock me, I was only trying to help.
when you're about the 235th person to suggest something to us, guide writers, it not really your fault that we take your suggestion and simply throw it in the pile. Any good guide writer will have poured over their own guide incalculable times in an effort to have the guide displayed the way we feel it should be displayed. Some suggestions can be helpful, others just irk the hell out of us. It can come down to timing, presentation of the advice, personal taste, or even personal history between the guide writer and the person giving the advice. At the moment, I would put this down to timing as you are at the end of a very long list of people who have attempted to advised Arelex as well as near the end of this paticular games lifespan in relation to the attention we wish to give it. You should also understand that this is not his only guide, so you can magnify the impact on us of each little note of how someone feels we should re-edit our guides.
