I thought the scenes were handled well, and far less awkward than DAO, but were definitely not fitting with the rating of the rest of the game. Though it was nice to have Hawke and Merril lying in bed afterwards in underclothes, talking about stuff - why not this with other characters? (I haven't romanced Fenris yet so I don't know what happens with him.)
Maybe the Bioware team need to watch a few more M15+ movies with sex scenes that involve nudity for inspiration.

That being said, Anders kiss is still the best kiss I have ever seen in any game. <3

Fenris and Isabella both keep their clothes on.

Hmm the only game I seen that wasn't PG-13 in that area was that mexican guy in RDR. And that was one thing I wish I never saw, for now on when I hear VIVA LA MEXICO, I'll be unable to take who says that serriously.

LOL that image is still burned into my brain bro.

HINT: You will see more of Keran than you will of any LI in the game.

The romance scenes have definitely improved A LOT since DA:O. That cheesy romance scene music from DA:O ... ugh. And then recycling it for the dark ritual scene? Double ugh.

I like the way that each scene is different from one another in DA2... Fenris' is pretty intense... Anders does indeed do the best snogging of all time, too.

I think they could've done a *tad* bit more... ME1 did have some awesome romance scenes in it.

Nevertheless, you know that half of us will be downloading some sort of hot coffee mod from Dragon Age Nexus in the future.

I can just imagine Varris recounting smut involving his good friends to Cassandra. Funny, but that would have been awkward. I'm sure they'll be a mod for that.

Ok. How about if Varric says to Cassandra: "Want to know the truth? Ok... FELICITATE ME!"

I was kinda waiting for something like ME1 love scene. But, its was a lot more romantic the way in DA2.
Anders's romance got me reaching for some cold water. Cause i often wish i can get a kiss like that. Fenris's is okay.
Isabellas is steamy.
Merrils is... wow.

i think the flak bioware has gotten from the "conservative media" is what got them to tone down. Its also easier to sell more games in more countries if you step on less cultural toes, sex being an issue in some countries. (although props to bioware for not budging from homosexuality rights)

Granted, i still want my house-shaking rompfest with sandal in the other room saying "not my enchantment!"

But i understand why bioware might want to keep with PG-13.

It is a bit odd that games can get combat motions (even somewhat ridiculous or physically impossible ones) to look very fluid and 'believable' to our eyes, but sex scenes tend to look...odd, and awkward.  It gets into uncanny valley territory, or something.  The scenes in DA:O weren't terrible for what they were, but they were about as erotic as banging two Lego minifigures together.  So for that reason I'm ok with the 'fade to black' scenes in DA2.

If we're old enough to be playing DA2, we're old enough to know what happens when the lights go out without needing a diagram. ;)

Also Fenris' wall-pushing is pretty hot. >.>

Or you can get porn on the internet. With real people.

Seriously. We know what happens after the screen fades. Watching digital characters having sex is just...awkward.

Agreed. I like for the game to lead you on as much as the next person, not just "dialogue -> black screen" but a little something there inbetween. But there's just enough of that in DA2. Basic kissing & cuddling fading to a black screen is quite enough for me. While Mass Effect was hardcore and interesting at the time for being so daring, I could have done with less. ME2 on the other hand had almost nothing, so there I would have preferred more. But DA2 got it just right in my opinion.

i have to admit, the reason i chose isabella over merrill is the same reason i chose miranda over tali in ME2. you get to see miranda in her undies, so i figured i'd get the same treatment from isabella. call me shallow. turns out i was a bit disappointed in isabella's scene.

Not EVERY BioWare game needs an M rated love scene.

No big deal.

Mass Effect? Liara showed a decent bit of skin in that one.

Well, the British Board of Film classification rated that game a twelve, noting that "the single sex scene is brief and undetailed"

The "why don't you go watch some porn" argument is invalid. To use an analogy, say you're romantically involved with a person, and when you finally consummate your relationship, he or she turns the light out for fear of judgment, and quips that "if you want to see nudity go on the internet".

We as gamers are invested in the (albeit fictional) relationships involving those characters. Watching some random adult material does not carry the same meaning. The "romance sequence" is suppose to be one of intimacy and vulnerability, Cutting from the shot when their lips meet to them with the "business done" and fully dressed leaves a gap in our immersion of their relationship.

"Watching internet porn" would be as suitable a substitute as the abrupt and incoherent cut to a photograph of two random people kissing when Hawke and a LI lock lips. Granted we don't need explicit showcase of the six things Isabella are good for but as Mass Effect and other games (Heavy Rain for one) have demonstrated, a romance sequence can be an integral part of the story while remaining classy.

As long as the sequences do not wander into MacGruber territory, something is still better than nothing.

Yeah man, naked featureless bodies in the dark. Totally M rated.
You can get more than that on prime time television.

I really don't even know what to say to certain threads.  This is an artistic presentation, not your RL lover.  You may not agree, but the aesthetics of pixel sex are more often grody and awkward than sexy IMO.  I much prefer the suggestion and the fade to black.

They are the worst butt kissing the media we got in trouble last time scenes ever made. They, Bioware, has been completely gelded.

Nor did I compare the game to a real life lover, hence the words "fictional" and "analogy". My criticism was made toward those who responded "watch porn" as substitute. Personally I have more problem with the floating swords on Isabella's back than anything else. Different people need different enticement to immerse themselves in the story, but I doubt any can accept "watch some porn" as an answer.

It makes about as much sense as sticking the picture of Angelina Jolie over your GF during sex and think that as a solution to the real deal. It's simply offensive.

I say as compensation, Bioware gets Angelina Jolie in the third game...

... naked.

... The whole time.

This was my assumption too. Posted Image

Maybe he figured going into the smutty details of Hawke's romantic entanglements (and this being Varric, oh, the embellishments he would come up with) to the Chantry inquisitor holding his life in her hands was, perhaps, pushing things a wee bit too far. Or he couldn't figure out how a dragon fight could be worked into the sex scene.

I don't need to see sex for a "love scene". If people want that, then by all means, add it in a mod. Once there's a toolset, nothing will stop you. It's unrealistic to expect Bioware to have "naughty" scenes in a mainstream video game.

Instead, I'd have preferred more actual love scenes--that is, a drawn out development of a romance (like we had in Origins) rather than a single conversation where people confess love, have sex, and move in all at once. That's absurd. It's not like they're in a hurry, either--they've been at Kirkwall for years!
