Best "romance" scene is from Heavy Rain...very well done. Take a note Bioware!

So many scenes in Heavy Rain were beautifully set up. The sex scene was well done without making it feel awkward.

The problem of creating a scene such as Heavy Rain is that, the scene is probably pre-rendered, using a high poly model with better texture. They can't do that in Bioware games because players will almost always edit and create the appearance of their PC. So they have to use the in game low ploy model and real time rendering. That's why it looks awkward, and not nearly sophisticated.

No, i don't want a scene where you press LB to remove Shirt or unclip Bra thankyou very much. There fine as it is.

I must say the DA2 scenes are better than Origins one, no dry humping in ugly undewear no more ^_^ Too bad they don't have the spine to make them ME1 style anymore, damn you sensatianolist propaganda network aka Fox News! :pinched:

I agree. Though I don't think BioWare lacks the spine to stand against Fox, I think it's EA execs drawing the line there. I can understand not wanting full frontal nudity, but even that is something relatively new. As the "Age of Information" provides more power to the people, it also provides more power to the narrow-minded fools who wants to shut down anything they don't agree with, and "controversiality" slinks into the shadows. It is a petty, really, even the ancient greeks had nudity and sex in art, and that's thousands of years ago. As far as recorded history shows, the Catholic church was the first instance to clamp down on nudity in art, often ransacking peoples homes, looking for "heretic elements". It's done in the name of civility, but I don't see anything civil in denying vital parts of human nature.

Also, sensationalism destroys journalism, and is the reason I'm more and more discouraged to read the news every day. It's no longer about "what is important for the world to know".

Can't really say more than this, but I'll try.

By the nature of what we are, almost every human in existence has a romantic side hidden somewhere. Bioware games have a penchant for drawing the side out of almost anyone due to the level of their writing. Now, I haven't had the chance to play my copy of DA2 yet - damned university firewalls - but I find myself coming down on the romantic side here once more. If it's as well written as I believe DA:O was, then I think I can survive without the sex scenes themselves - and that's fine.

But when it comes to romance, things like pillow talk and idle affirmations of I love you in conversation - simple things goshdarnit! - those are what make these things powerful. So if Bioware has managed to hold on to those things, even if they lose the ever so slightly more graphic stuff, then I'm happy. And come on people, you, me and the entire bioware design team for DA2 know that there is just going to be a mod for this.

I'll agree that a great deal of the reason for the pull back on even partial nudity is probably a combo of media pressure and line drawing from the higher-ups. But anyone has the capability to cause that to change. If you want sensationalism to die, fight it. If you don't want censorship on things like this, fight it. The internet has given a great deal of power to everyone, the main reason that the narrow minded are 'winning' is because they yell the loudest. So shout back, or hell, preemptively shout! The internet has given us the power to shape our world and a lot of us aren't willing to use that tool - mainly because we don't want to try to do something so far reaching. We're scared of what could come out of it in the end and that's completely human. But where do we draw the line on our personal freedoms?

I know this has kinda verged off topic here and I apologise if it offends anyone. To me however, it just needed said.

Wind to thy wings

Like for Origins. And after seeing the tentacle you-can-guess-what mod for Oblivion, no mod surprises me anymore. Though it is pretty nicely animated...

The only think I am hoping is that we don't see all these lame porn mods like the ones that came out for DAO....sometimes subtlety and innuendo make for better drama then just showing everthing.

What?  You're making that up.  High medieval religious art is sometimes very sensual, for one thing.

I highly doubt they were responding to media pressure, not when controversy actually brings in cash.  More like cost savings (not having to create nude or seminude models) and the aesthetic.  Pixel humping... no thank you.  It's not sexy when you're cringing at the screen.

It has nothing to do with denying parts of human nature- I don't even know what that means.  People have different views on this, to some it celebrates something to have it openly displayed, to others it demeans and cheapens the same thing.  In this case it's just a matter of taste.  Don't try to make a big political thing out of it.

I didn't mind the "fade to black" but I agree with an earlier poster that I would have liked more scenes leading up to the big event. Instead we had *flirt* *flirt* *sex* *flirt* *finale.* Oh, and I also wanted to be able to kiss my LI after they moved in. More kissing, more dialogue, more romance. Not necessarily steamy bedroom scene.

I think it would be really awkward if Varric told Cassandra any more of what happened. ;)

Great. Just great. Now the next time I see my Hawke making out with Fenris I'm now going to imagine VARRIC NARRATING IT.
I hate you. You put this thought in my mind! :pinched:

I romanced two companions on my first playthrough and I thought the lead up to the 'big moments' were really well done and I didn't mind the 'fade to black'. I not bothered about watching an animated sex scene as such BUT I did think it was a bit unrealistic for my people to be fully dressed immediately afterwards.ItI worked alright for Fenris, who had no intentions of sticking around anyway and at least my Hawke was half-dressed for that but it made no sense at all when both Anders and my Hawke got dressed for their fireside scene - why would they? They weren't going anywhere! I also agree with those who said it was a pity that things fizzled out a bit after the 'main event'. Otherwise though, I thought the romances as a whole were well written (even if my Hawke was a bit quick to flirt so soon after meeting the potential LIs).

This totally ruined the game for me. If Bioware doesn't at least promise some XXX unrated Sigrun x Merrill action in DA3, I'm not buying it.

The Origins sex scene was laughably awkward. I'm glad they didn't put it in again

I thought they were done well enough. The romances are really there just to add to the character's story (probably fan service mostly anymore but whatever). Origins showed more skin yet the romance scenes were god awful. If I wanted more I could look it up elsewhere...=)

The love scenes are really bland and lame.
They really need an improvement. Stop being afraid of Fox News and Soccer Moms.

It is a bit odd that games can get combat motions (even somewhat ridiculous or physically impossible ones) to look very fluid and 'believable' to our eyes, but sex scenes tend to look...odd, and awkward.  It gets into uncanny valley territory, or something.  The scenes in DA:O weren't terrible for what they were, but they were about as erotic as banging two Lego minifigures together.  So for that reason I'm ok with the 'fade to black' scenes in DA2.

If we're old enough to be playing DA2, we're old enough to know what happens when the lights go out without needing a diagram. ;)

Not really an excuse. The same thing happens in Fable and every other game.
I mean, for a game that claims to be so dark and mature...well, the "love scenes" are really disappointing. I'm not asking for a porno or a "diagram", but something like Heavy Rain would be excellent.

And also...I call double standards and a bit of hipocrisy. Well, yeah, it's awesome to kill a bunch of people and animals, make 'em explode and mutilate them, but don't let the disgusting sex scenes reach my children, it's the work of the devil...

It's getting worse and worse at BioWare in this area. I don't know what happens to them, but I think it's time to wake up.

Soon they'll treat us like children. Everything indicates that they are insulting our intelligence, our maturity in many areas.

They become more and more timid, to return to this area. Soon character will grant a kiss on the lip and certainly not more.

A short scene, barely a languorous kiss, and not even underwear for Isabella, who, however, not hesitate to show her panties in fight ...

In short, DA2 romances are the worst I ever knew. Those of Mass Effect 2 were already down in my esteem.
