I am NOT having my personal choices in-game be determined by the fact that someone didn't do their job properly.
(btw, this isn't me just ****ing at DA2 - i've loved all 43hours of it so far. except the for the whole 'it's now broken' issue.. )

I understand your frustration as we all feel the same way. But for those of us who have ALREADY bought the game and wish to continue playing that's far from helpful. This is simply a way for those who want to play the game avoid the bug.Spanishcat wrote...
Forget spreading the word, I'm suggesting to my friends to not buy DA2 right now, until this issue's fixed - which is exactly what BioWare and EA deserve.

To Girl in the Box I have reloaded my old save to answer your question and YES the bug still happens if she is in friendship when she leaves. However if you get her friendship/rivalry to 50% (which activates either ability) AND complete ALL her companion quests up to this point she will return and you can get her back solving your problem.
Thank you for going through the trouble to find out and answer my question,
Again, thank you.

I have loaded an old save to test and it APPEARS you'll be safe if she's in the party. Bear in mind I only tested this on 3 seperate cut scenes so I can't verify it works on them all. I would recommend regular saves to minimise what you must replay just in case you do have a problem (I am now saving after EVERY quest, sometimes more frequently)Gibb_Shepard wrote...
What about loading an autosave before a cutscene? If Isabella is in my party, but i load an autosave at the start of a cut scene, will it still recognise that she's in my party? Or will it not recognise she's in my party due to the cut scene?

Thank you for going through the trouble to find out and answer my question,as well as for posting all your findings here. I'm back to playing now (yay!) and even though only saving/loading with Izzy in my party is a royal PITA, at least I can still finish my game.
Again, thank you.
No problem, the whole point of this was to help people

Yes but on leaving the house the buff disappears (or stays if you pick her again). So as I have stated in earlier posts do not save in your house. Also as my full in depth description explains only save if Isa/Seb are in active party (if they are friends.)notinterested wrote...

I tested this very thoroughly before coming up with my theory and I can assure you the problem is caused by loading without them. Having her forcibly removed will not cause a problem unless you then save without her, as then loading this save will cause the bug.notinterested wrote...
Just found some more info that I haven't seen posted here. Apparently the problem happens when Isabela is forced out of your party. (ie: entering home). This causes Isabela to leave the party but does not deactivate her friend buff. Now evertime you load without her, it subtracts that 5% but fails to remove the buff. That means you keep losing 5% every time you load.
However, I just tested it out and if you add her to the party (let the party appear) and then remove her again manually, it will remove the friend buff from Hawke as normal. This should allow you to play from then on without her in the party and not lose speed everyitme you load the game.
That isn't my point. I am telling you that the reason the buff gets stuck on you in the first place is because she gets forced out. Go ahead and test again if you doubt me. Put Isabela in your party and then exit the party screen to normal. Check your abilities. The buff will be there. Go to party formation again and take her out. Exit to normal and check abilities. It will be gone.
Now put her in your party again so that the buff will be back. Now enter your house to force her out of the party, and check your abilities. The buff will still be there.
I am not trying to say it her being forced out that causes the loss in speed. That is just what causes the buff to glitch. It is then loading with the glitched buff that causes the speed to decrease.
I think what he is trying to say is how the buff was glitched in the first place. I did not test this but I only saw this glitch after she initially ran away from you outside the Foundry.
Saving without them in the party can also be the cause but it is confirmed that it will make it worse.

Would I also be right in saying that loading these scenarios would be safe?:
1) Any save before a friendship bonus was acquired.
2) Any save where Sebastian and/or Isabela give a friendship bonus AND are in the party
3) Once a bug has been applied, loading a previous save where either a friendship bonus is not present, or the person(s) giving the bonus are in the party would be unbugged from then on.
Sorry if the post was kinda long; I'm just trying to understand the nuances of the bug. Any corrections/ confirmations to my understanding would be appreciated. And thank you tons to all the people that tested out all the different scenarios where the bug shows up to figure all this out. You give hope that all aspects of the story can still be experienced!
EDIT- is it possible to avoid the bug altogether by not entering the Hawke estate with Isabela or Sebastian in the party?

So basically: The moment an Isabela or Sebastian friendship bonus is acquired, the person giving the bonus MUST be in the party when creating a savegame. If the game is loaded after a bonus has been granted and the bonus giver is NOT in the party the bug WILL apply. The bug is applied when LOADING a game; so any autosaves made without said persons in the game would not matter as long as they are not loaded. Am I right in these statements?

So far as people who tested this bug, that is the conclusion we came to.
For 1 and 2, I believe it is correct.
As for 3, I cannot be sure for I have not tested this.
There are occassions in the game that forces party members to quit party, avoiding to take them with you to the estate would only delay the inevitable if you have their friendship. I also think that this is at least partly caused by loading without them...there have also been reports that people who had them in their party throughout their playthrough have not expeirenced this bug..As such I don't know if you can avoid this problem by not bringing them to the estate.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't comment on this, since I'm not the one fixing it, but I also think a little explanation is deserved.
According to the last information I had, it seems like the Maker's Sigh, follower player bonuses, and item sets bugs are actually all symptoms of the same issue. The game saves out the ability list incorrectly, leading to corruption. Those particular bonuses are abilities, which is why they show up on your ability screen.
We are testing a fix. I haven't been able to reproduce it personally after the fix, and QA is testing more thoroughly.
The fix of making Thumbs Up have a bonus of 0 doesn't actually fix the underlying problem, it just makes it have no consequences.

For now I have only Isabela and Sebastian on Hawke's talent trees (now I'm trying to evade Seb's). Thanks for the advice, I'll try to not use her (or to be very careful).

Avaline doesn't affect Hawke's damage resistance, she increases her own so I don't see how this could possibly be caused by her?LOLiLOLcat99 wrote...

It says on her friendship ability serve and protect that she gives 5% DR. Never saw a buff on buff bar or anything.
I really hope I aint the only one experiencing this....I feel lonley haha.

Are you confusing armor with damage resistance because Rock Armor gives you 25% armor, not DR? And the 5% damage resistance Avaline gives INCREASES HER OWN DR NOT HAWKE'S.LOLiLOLcat99 wrote...
I have died(a few times) with avaline in party just after gaining friendship. I then see my DR is 3% with just armor, 28% with rock armor. I check anders and hes 14% unbuffed. I assumed it was avaline as she is the only one I am friends with. It could be another factor?

My brother is trying to avoid the bug in his playthrough, and for now it works. I'm going to finish this playthough on casual to the end anyway.
edit: plus, it seems to get worse even when I reload some savefile without Isabela in the party. Hope I'm wrong, since in this case I don't know if I can finish my playtrough.

It won't get worse simply by having her exit the party. It's caused by loading a save file in which Isabella/Sebastian (as friends) ARE NOT in the active party of the file you are loading.hhh89 wrote...
I have a question, the solution found in the fist page works for the start of the bug, right? Because I am in act 3,(with the bug activated in act 3) and the thing got worse on Isabela's mission, despite the fact that I haven't reload any save, so probably after you activate the bug, this will get worse anytime Isabela exit from your party (and she goes out at least one time).

Just in case, you may also want to avoid occassions where she is forcefully removed from party. Like going to the estate with her in party.
