@ UKillMeLongTime You're in the 360 thread, you'll probably find more help win the PC one:

I know where I am, lol
You can edit xbox game saves too if you have a thumb drive. There is a program that edits a few things and speed is one of them. It's nothing like what the PC modders do but it's better than nothing!

Could you link it please, or give a name?
I just noticed I had this bug, from 10+ hours...I will just for now save always with Isabela in party, but I would really like to fix it, until a patch is released.

Well, I'm almost positive this bug is not affecting me. I've had 'bella in my party practically the entire game, and I was worried I might be experiencing slow down, even though I hadn't noticed any and I'm in Act 3. So, I tested it with Sebastion, who I only got the friendship bonus for near the beginnning of Act 3. So, I hadn't had him in my party since I got his bonus, and I checked it: 2% (from Evra's trophy belt). I went to the chantry and picked up Seb. DR is now at 7%. Now, I went to my mansion, waited for the autosave to complete, and reloaded. DR still at 7% because companion abilities are not removed when you travel to the mansion. I then left the mansion to Hightown without Seb. DR at 2%. Wait for auto-save to complete, reload. DR still at 2%. Saved again. Reloaded. DR still at 2%.

Am I missing something here, or does this mean the bug is not affecting me?

I even reloaded to a point long before I got Seb's bonus. DR is still 2%.

Sorry for the mixup UKillmeLongTime~ I didn't actually know you could do that. Would you link that to me too? I'd like to start playing the game again.

@Tallin Harperson. The bug has to do with the Black Emporium and the item that allows you to reset skills and stats. Have you used it yet on isabella? I noticed the bug only after using it on her (so her new armor would show up, another bug).

He's probably causing a bug problem! We need Johnny and the Starship Troopers to help us solve it!

I love the Starship Trooper reference.

Back on topic, I just looked through the PS3 forum on this topic, and they seem to have come to some good conclusions, one of which is in the FP. may be worth while to check out.

I think you're fine for now Tallin, though don't take my word for it 100%.

Have you tried manually saving without them and reloading? If it still doesn't affect you then you are either very lucky, or we have got something wrong with the trigger.

I also heard that this bug has something to do with the Black Emporium...Damn you Xenon

Another day, another no show for any sign of a fix :(

Honestly, as much as I have loved what I've played of Dragon Age 2 I can't say that this game is fit for purpose :( it pains me to say it, but it never should have been released in this state. Hell, I suffered my way thru Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and that game was BROKEN, but the issues in DA2 almost make that game look polished *sigh*

Pleeeeease fix this Bioware, and retroactively fix it so the base levels in existing saves are reset. You know it makes sense :)

Im still wondering how this bug passed testers! Think about it, if you were playing/testing the game wouldnt you make sure the friendship and rivalry system was working correctly for each character? Its been almost three weeks... I and many others would like to play this game with AT LEAST this issue fixed. please. :(

First of all, I'd like to add my thanks to all the people who put so much effort into finding the cause and workaround for this bug -- I lost about 14 hours of gameplay backtracking to avoid it, but it's worth it to have my Hawke faster than continental drift again. :P I do have one question though (sorry -- I'm not what you'd call technologically gifted and the long testing explanation, while awesome, lost me a bit. *embarrassedface*) Re: the "safe" saving areas bit -- does this mean a.) Saving/loading only in those areas will prevent the bug *from ever activating in the first place*, but once the bug IS active the only important thing is only loading saves with Bela/Seb in the party; or b.) those are the ONLY safe places to load saves from, EVEN IF they are in your party? I'm really hoping it's the former, as that's much simpler... Example: I have a save from Fenris' companion quest; Bela's Friendship bonus is active and she is in my party. Is loading that save "fine" (won't lose the 5% on load) because she's in my active party; or "not fine" (*will* lose the 5% on load), even though she's in my party, because it's outside Kirkwall? Thanks again for your help. :)

Sorry---took the liberty to re-format your post...hard to read. =]

a) Not sure if it will prevent it from "ever" happening in the first place. But according to our dear forum beta tester, that is a tentatitive yes. Second is also a yes at this point. If you already have it, then you are going to follow the "guide" so as to stop it from getting worse. As far as I know, this is currently the only way to prevent it from getting worse.

B) Not sure, try messaging the chap, I linked his name on the bottom of the OP quote. To be honest his prevention post left me confused also.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The testing or whatever department it is should be forever banned from getting a raise..
Both DA:O and DA:II are plagued by bugs...This one in particular: gamebreaking.

I don't think so. I haven't bought or used a Maker's Sigh on anybody (Hawke or companion), and I've still been hit with the bug.

It's not ideal, but after scouring these forums, I managed to get enough info to edit my 360 save without too much trouble at all (I already had the bug and couldn't be arsed losing playtime) to counteract the bugs effects. I figure I can just keep editing every few saves or so as it only takes about 5 mins.

I've been trying this too, since it seems the only way I'm going to be able to continue playing the game. I can reset the stats but am getting a corrupt data file after rehashing & resigning the file. If anyone would be so kind as to pm me some instructions/links to a solution they have working I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance...I just want to be able to play Dragon Age 2 again!

I did, but you have to extract the save from your USB drive to your PC using Modio first. Once that's been done, Firstblight will be able to open it. Pretty sure it has to be the latest version of Firstblight too - 1.31
If you're still struggling, let me know and I'll do up a step-by-step of what I did.

I have the same problem as FluxOmega. I know how to rehash & resign it, and to plug it back into the usb drive. I've narrowed it down to Firstblight since extracting and R&Ring it using modio without modifying it doesn't corrupt the save file. I only ever changed the attack speed when I tried it. I tested it on both autosave files and regular save files. Hawke estate and lowtown(night), they all get corrupted.

This is horrendous. I didn't want to spoil the game but I don't want to get a headache inducing game breaking bug either ... why do we as consumers allow this? Shame on you Bioware.

How strange, it went swimmingly for me. Not sure what could be going wrong without seeing it though. You definitely have the right version of Firstblight?

P.s - FluxOmega, sent you a PM detailing what I did

the latest version, 1.31. My playthrough is currently, I think around 30+ hours. Some people in different forums thought that may be the problem, a longer playtime. How long was yours when you modified it?

Thanks for the PM thegrimfandango, followed your instructions and got it to work :) Thank you so much! You're a star! (^_^)

P.s. Manalili; my play time is at 60 hours, so you should be fine. I think it's all down to the programs we were using to handle the data.
