I feel as if something was lost in DA2 when compared to Origins.  I can't pinpoint exactly what, a lot of things really.  The sense of purpose to your quests being the one that comes to mind first for me.

The second being the quality of some of the quest writing.  The generic "Thank you for returning [item]" lines really started to get on my nerves halfway through the game.

Do any of you feel the same way and what would you point to?

Well what was lost? Probably nothing. I don't blame the devs as much as EA. Obviously there is not enough time to make good games anymore. I mean DA:O development took 5 years, DA2 took 2. One more year and DA2 would be the better of the two.

Good start, but you have to pick the heart option a few more times to get in my pants.

Gifts work well, too.

A lot of suck, and a few unique environments.

Over Simplified but they knew this when making it, if they can take the basic idea and expand and prob make the fights less like your on speed. Be good if the lower levels battles feel and looks slower and more amature then high levels, instead of everyone back flipping everywhere from the start. Also the story isn't as conecentrated as the last but that didn't bother me.

The only thing that I didn't really like was the was some of them all looked, qunari - fine, elfs - ok but Darkspawn looked weird there was nothing wrong with the original darkspawn. And some of the old Origins characters looked odd. Why did Teagen have red hair?

What I dont understand is, if they had so little time, why focus on changing the qunari, elfs, darkspawn etc? Instead of spending time on deeper content, and less repetition of environments.

Agreed no need to fix something that isn't broken

A mute hero, a lot of shuffling, and horrifically unbalanced classes.

Oh, what, were we supposed to be assuming Origins was better ...?

First off- Alex XIV amen, amen, amen!!!! i mean hell just 6 months further of effort probably could have made it better!
Second- Swords Edge and monimakitten i felt that the darkspawn in DA:O looked alot better than in DA2 and the overused same layouts of houses, caves, and everything... i mean what the hell!!! but its whatever im just hoping that they take their time and pull out all the stops for DA3!

Me too. the darkspawn were fine as they were. And the wounded coast got so boring after a while...Hope the next game is better.

I would rather have a mute hero and a game more like origins than another DA2.

This hadn't even crossed my mind.

And now I am filled with extra rage.

I don't think anything too valuable was lost, but many thing were gained. It could've been longer, but I am fine with the current length, for now. ^_^

Oh, let's see, sense of direction in the series, sense that choices matter, lore continuity, companions you can get to know, different endings . . .

Well, that's a good start.

I see the same sparks of genius in the dialogues, charactes and plots. What is lost is time to polish. I could have waited till Xmas to get a bigger, better, more polished Dragon Age 2.

A plot.

Sure, "Save us from the evil horde by slaying the dragon" was a tad cliche. And sure, the Archdemon sucked as an actual villian due to operating on demented bloodlust and, as a dragon, not actually talking or being involved in any meaningful way.

DA2 is pretty much "Unfocused milling about until you find a major plot item that's treated like a minor curiosity", "RAH, QUNARI" and "Hey that plot item turned up again out of the blue and everyone went crazy".

Sounds like someone never read the codexes.

I believe they tried the same tactic they tried between Mass Effect 1 and 2 - the difference is - the changes worked in ME2 - not so much between DA1 and DA2!!
Grr Grrr Growf!!!

Oh please. The Archdemon did nothing. It's whole -thing- is that it's the only thing large and smart enough to properly direct the latent bloodlust of the Darkspawn Taint into a Blight. Darkspawn spend hundreds of years digging for Old Gods, corrupt them, the Old Gods go insane and push the Darkspawn into attacking the surface world.
It had no personality and didn't do anything more than bad dreams and roaring until it got to Denerim.

Character development, less dialogue between companions(just those horrific one-liners), environments, and I guess that's it for me.

Maybe down the line we can get fixes to our bugs, and some free DLC to make up for that...I hope so, but doubt it.

I am actually liking DA2. I think the fight system is very refreshing. Yes Origins was deeper, but you have to also keep in mind that they released a few DLC for it and they have already released on for DA2. The story line has kept my interested enough for me to have poured in going on 40 hours.

If they would have made it the same as Origins, then you might as well be playing Origins. I think it did well letting you import your origins game into DA2 and blending in those elements. This means that depending on how far you got in Origins, everyone should have a different game experience. Sometimes I think Devs do not get enough credit. No matter what they do someone always will have something to **** about.

This game was given a 9/10 and I agree with that 100%
