As much as I despise DA2 I find this overboard, you don't know the man or his 'true' work (EA could have done this to Laidlaw).
Realistically DA2 is a success, its selling well and the console fans love it... mission accomplished.
The sad reality is us RPG-fans are a dying breed (literally, aging), and being replaced by the semi-
The lesson I take from this: I'm now an old fuddy duddy (30) and Bioware no longer cares about me.
The sad lesson I take from this: much like my parents said "this generation is doomed and dumb", each generation that makes this call has been right so far. We went from Robert Frost to Twilight in 100 years ....

Or you know there were always very different ways to approach cRPGs, and until recently games had successfully (either purposefully or accidentally) catered to both.
Now they only cater to one.
But then, veteran RPG-fans who like the kinds of changes Bioware has made in DA2 and ME1-2 don't exist.

Because of poor business decisions made too often by this industry, more people are let go after making a good or great game than after making a bad one. Given that, this disturbing trend on the boards of disposing of people outright is a bit sickening. It benefits you in no way whatsoever if someone is let go.
Any company who lets someone go loses not only the future potential of that person, but whatever money they have invested in the person in training, benefits, etc. (which is more than you think it is). And if you think people have any value only if they give you something good and never disappoint you, well...

So I guess every other book that came out over the last decade didn't exist - just because of Twilight. Woops, I'd better forget about reading Leviathans of Jupiter then. I'm sure that Ben Bova went all glittery vampires and whatnot instead of tackling religion and science.

I believe part of the problem is that there was a belief or a hope (naive though it was) that at least the teams who used to work for BioWare would be able to push back when EA took over. It seems like maybe it's been revealed that this simply isn't the case, and this "BioWare" you talk about is now just a badge to put on the box.Sanzee wrote...
If you're going to blame someone, blame EA. They wanted a rush job. They wanted to capitalize on Dragon Age as fast as possible, after Origins. They didn't want people to forget Dragon Age (even though those of us who love Dragon Age could never forget about it). I'm disappointed in EA.
My belief is that Origins is what it was only because it was the last BioWare project (and was too far along for EA to cancel). There won't be any return to the old way of doing things, and I honestly don't expect that many of the longtime BioWare employees will remain with EA (you don't need all those writers when you can pump out games that sell just as well or better with much less writing, same for designers and developers and artists). I expect to see almost entirely unfamiliar names five years out, although I very much want to be wrong.
I'll still buy and enjoy games marketed under the BioWare brand ('cause they're fun), but I'm starting to think that I won't have any real attachment to the stuff that gets put out (but with the same people at the helm, I'll always at least give them a shot).

The dev team can't face repercussions for the game being rushed. They don't set the schedule.
But they can. It happens in business all the time. Repercussions is the wrong word for it: relocating dept. heads, demotion...simply being replaced with someone the bigwigs feel is better suited to the job. It's not out of the realm of possibility.
I haven't played the game, so I won't say "fire Laidlaw! He screwed up!" but if I was one of the good doctors running Bioware, the first team member I would replace would be Matt Goldman. Simply because his art design was inconsistant and forced. He truly made some lousy choices and to be perfectly honest, there were probably a dozen other art directors who could have done it better.

I consider myself a RPG fan.... i guess I just have a more versatile taste in RPGs. Or maybe I'm more open and accepting to change. I loved DA2. lol
Keep in mind that role-playing games have changed and evolved since the day of pen-and-paper D&D. The major similarities with the original RPG pen-and-paper games is that you have the player(s) controlling a character, or several adventuring party members, fulfilling one or many quests. Other traditional aspects of RPGs involve story-telling and narrative elements, player character development, complexity, replayability and immersion.
We've broken away from the origin of pen-and-paper and today role-playing video games are classified into sub-genres based on differences in gameplay: Action role-playing games, Role-playing shooters, Adventure role-playing games, Dungeon crawlers, Massively multiplayer online role-playing games, Online text-based role-playing games, MUDs,Tactical role-playing games,Turn-based role-playing games.
RPG is very loosely defined when you step outside of it's roots of pen and paper....
Regardless, I still see Dragon Age 2 keeping many, if not all of those traditional RPG aspects.... lol

I think I'm dead to sarcasm now. See, this one time, a few days ago... *frightened whisper* i agreed with vahe
It's like that episode of South Park, where Cartman saw the funniest thing ever and couldn't laugh any more. I just can't do sarcasm. And it's all Vahe's fault. Stupid Witcher 2 fanboy.
