Greetings from Canada eh!

Having finally finished my Roman test, I can finally post my thoughts on DAII in here! Overall, I liked it, it had improvements over DA:O , although in a few areas it was worse. No less a sequel than ME2 was to ME though!

Combat - I much prefer the combat system in DAII, I find it flows much better, and the option to pause and play out your own tactics for each charecter is still there. At first I thought that the skill trees looked quite slim, but at the end of the game I was quite happy to have filled up my bar and was using most of my buttons., unlike in WoW where my retired shaman had 50 things on the screen I never used, and 5 that I did. I have to say my biggest gripe with combat in DAII was the spawning method of the bad guys. The spiders I liked the most because it made sense how they came in. the only person I can see jumping down the side of a building in hightown are assasins, ninjas, and my grandpa (he's way scarier than ninja's), to me, it doesnt make sense to have anyone else coming in this way. I would much rather have run into an area filled with bad guys to fight, then at a certain time more come running in from the next hall way or room, or from the way I had come. The last thing I can mention here is the random exploding bad guys after I stab them. I can see some kind of magic spell doing that to someone, but not my daggers!

Companions - I had no real issues with the companions in DAII, and was happy to see drama towards the end to boot. Some of the dialogue responses to things my hawke said didnt make complete sense, or seemed as if the character completely ignored what hawke said and just went on with what they were saying before, which didnt seem right. I would have liked to see more companion missions and alot more conversations, even just casual ones, with all the squad mates, as it seems to me that it was a tad bit similiar to ME2 where alot of the story revolves around your companions, although certainly less so here in DAII as it is Hawkes story. It almost seemed like they didnt do much during the time skips. Would have been nice if Isabela didnt stand at the same spot at the bar, made her seemed static, like a chair almost. Was very happy with the voiced Main Character.

Story - Can't say I have too much to say on the story. It's meant to tell hawkes story, and that it does. wish there were more main quests though, as it felt a little 'quick' in the end.

Locations - I have to say that the locations felt really lazily done. I wasn't against it all happening around kirkwall, but kirkwall is so so tiny, with so few locations to visit. and alot of the places you do go to are copy and pasted from other places, which makes it feel even smaller a environment to explore. When I heard it was taking place in kirkwall mostly, I got really excited and imagined places like the Stygian city from Age of Conan, with tons of small and tight random passages going all over the place, and just tons of places and side quests to go, as well as several different ways you could climb to the top of power in kirkwall, making your very own version of Hawkes story, and I figured thats where the big choices would be in this bioware game. (Like at the start, where you have to choose between the two groups). That said, im not against re-used locations, as it can save time in development, but since most of them looked the same in the end, it made it a bad thing. perhaps something like Oblivion is the way to go, where most of the environments start to look the same after awhile, but they are all decorated differently making each unique. this is where DA:O is supurior to DAII, as DA:O had alot of unique locals to visit.

I also have to say that I was a little dissapointed at not really leaving kirkwall at all. I figured there might be a few towns or hamlets around it that I would go to as well, but alas, there were not. Ofcourse, more towns or cities would make great DLC or awakening style expansions. (going to Starkhaven, for example)

I was glad to see that the story didnt have much to do with the Warden from DA:O, although you could still see the effects from the warden's quest.

Overall, I was quite happy with it. In fact, it reminded me ALOT of Jade Empire, which I loved. It's Bioware games like this that got me off of WoW. Can't wait for the next Bioware game, and The Old Republic!
